Heard someone discussing medinas ( poss auntie beeb) and they stated they were Islamic. I thought I would check, and they are a neolithic invention that are found everywhere in Europe, Asia and Africa!

Which made me wonder, how do we know medina in the koran refers to a specific place, and not "a city"?

And I propose the religiosity of a society is related to how it tends to live, for example in extended family dwellings or in nuclear family dwellings.

Various islamic tales tell of women going out to relieve themselves and being molested, but my understanding of the courtyard house is you did not go out for those actions. Those types of tale make more sense for nomadic peoples.

Has anyone asked what do particular stories tell one about location?

As medina is such a common term - it is the former capital of Malta for example - has anyone proposed that the Koranic medina tales are entirely fictional?
