Fifty dead at Florida gay club in America's worst mass shooting  says news

    Quote
ORLANDO: Fifty people died and another 53 were injured early Sunday when a heavily-armed gunman opened fire and seized hostages at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, police said, in the worst mass shooting in US history.

Terrified survivors -- who moments before were laughing and dancing with friends -- described how the gunman named by media as a US citizen of Afghan descent raked the club with bullets, prompting a police SWAT team to storm the venue.

“We have cleared the building, and it is with great sadness that I share we have not 20, but 50 casualties in addition to the shooter,” Mayor Buddy Dyer told a mid-morning news briefing in Orlando, more than doubling the previously given death toll.

“There are another 53 that are hospitalised.”

President Barack Obama was being kept up to date by his homeland security and counterterrorism aide on what Florida officials are investigating as a terrorist attack.

FBI official Ronald Hopper told reporters officials were “confident” there was no immediate further threat to the area, or to the United States.

well that is what news says..... with such news in front of elections,.,  Mr. Trump will trounce every one in American Politics..

A GUNMAN ‘wearing a bomb’ has been killed by police after murdering ’50 people’ at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida in the biggest mass shooting in American history.

Police have called the tragedy “an act of terrorism” with the US media identifying the killer as ‘Islamic extremist’ Omar Mateen, 29, – an American citizen from Port St. Lucie in Florida whose parents are from Afghanistan. The gunman’s father Mir Seddique told NBC that his son became radicalised after seeing two men kissing in Miami.

New York born Omar Mateen, 29, – an American citizen   posing in a NYPD branded shirt..

    **************************************************************

well that is the news., Mir Seddique says " his son became radicalised after seeing two men kissing in Miami."

well such   rogues of Islam can be radicalized by any thing on roads..., Nooo., His father doesn't know what he is saying.,    that can not be true.,  there is more than that to get a fellow radicalized ., Sure the kid born in America must know the gay culture in that country

    Quote
CBS News Justice and Homeland Security correspondent Jeff Pegues reports that that Mateen called 911 just prior to the attack and pledged allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. According to CBS News, Mateen identified himself to the 911 operator and also mentioned the Tsarnaev brothers, who were behind the Boston Marathon bombings in 2013.

Sources said Mateen had been on law enforcement’s radar in the last five years, and that he was not under investigation at the time of the shooting.

that fool has plenty of financial support..he goes all over the world to talk in Shia Mosques..

Dr. Farrokh Sekaleshfar was born in Manchester, United Kingdom. He received his MBBS (Medical Degree) in 2000 from the Imperial College of London, the second ranked medical school in England and 3rd ranked in the world. He also studied bioethics at the University of Manchester School of Law. Dr. Sekaleshfar currently resides in Qum and has studied in the Islamic Seminary for over a decade. He is well-known for his talks on spirituality and bioethics.

I have very strong doubt on his degree from that  Imperial College of London

    http://www.themuslimgroup.org/

that is where his  money comes  for his international talks ., we must realize here., if we throw that fucking hadith in to trash bin or burn it on mosque foot steps..  The Quran says nothing more on Homosexuals over what OT and NT has in them.,   In Quran.,  this so-called homosexuality is mentioned in the following verses..
    Quote
007.080  : And (We sent) Lut when he said to his people: What! do you commit an indecency which any one in the world has not done before you?

007.081 : Most surely you come to males in lust besides females; nay you are an extrava

007.082:   And the answer of his people was no other than that they said: Turn them out of your town, surely they are a people who seek to purify (themselves).

007.083  : So We delivered him and his followers, except his wife; she was of those who remained behind.

007.084 : And We rained upon them a rain; consider then what was the end of the guilty

Same story is   repeated in surah 27 and surah 29) and in Surah-26
    Quote
026.165 : What! do you come to the males from among the creatures

026.166 : And leave what your Lord has created for you of your wives? Nay, you are a people exceeding limits.

026.167:  They said: If you desist not, O Lut! you shall surely be of those who are expelled.

what all it says in Quran on the punishment is in 4:16

    Quote
004.016  : And as for the two who are guilty of indecency from among you, give them both a punishment; then if they repent and amend, turn aside from them; surely Allah is Oft-returning (to mercy), the Merciful.-

None of those verses say kill homosexuals

that IDIOT Dr. Farrokh Sekaleshfar  to say all that rubbish in that video., he is  getting stuff out of his ass.  The fool  should be insulted at every place in every social media  and then put him in to zoo along with some baboons in real life.

It’s been a while since I posted or discussed Islam/apostate issues anywhere at all. It’s been kind of refreshing to take a step back and let myself look at this from even cheaper seats than usual. I didn’t come back specifically for this thread—I’d planned on showing up more regularly starting this week, anyway—but it’s an apt one to come back to, I think.

It’s always been this struggle for us. We’re always walking a thin line between two sides. There’s vultures watching us and hoping we slip—and we often do. I’ve felt more recently that this line has gotten thinner. Maybe since daesh?

If I’m still standing on this line and I look to one side, I see a lot of bigotry of a certain kind—we all know the sort, I don’t need to describe it. And when I look to the other, I see another kind of bigotry that comes from compassion instead of suspicion and the desire to protect instead of misplaced fear. If I’ve gotta fall from the tightrope, I’m falling into the latter side, but I’ve been there. Lots of us have. This is the side that failed to protect us, to hear us—in some cases, they went out of their way to silence us—when we once appealed for help for ourselves or others when something about Islam, or about an interpretation of Islam, or about a community, or about our families, or whatever I've got to say to buffer this statement, was causing harm.

Fool me once, if my heart had to lead me somewhere, it would almost always be by Hassan’s side, and trust me: I understand why you’ve been met with a firm request to fuck right off. Seriously, man...quotes around peaceful to imply that there's no such thing? But I get how men like you are made. You're part of the problem, but I get you. I'm going to ask the same thing of you that I'm about to ask of the rest of us.

What are we supposed to do now, my friends? There's greater extremes on both sides now, there’s the smell of a final solution on the breath of half the people who speak fearfully of Muslims, it’s worthless to refuse to address the actions of terrorists who act under the banner of Islam, and we’re not helping ourselves (and we’re not fooling any opponents of Muslims, anyway) if we try to say that nothing about any mainstream interpretation of Islam could make an adherent think something like death for homosexuality is a good thing. But before even hearing more about this shooter, we've already set up our usual camps and our opinions are set in stone.

The thin line in the middle is getting smaller and harder to stay on, my friends, but is there any other way to go? Let’s speak about this fairly. Yes, this may have, and likely does have, something to do with Islam, but not everything to do with Islam—that much should be obvious, even to the biggest fool, if there's even one peaceful Muslim on Earth. Let’s have a reasoned, fair discussion about this. Let’s be fair to both sides. Let’s speak responsibly and truthfully, or not speak about this at all, and only express condolences for the suffering—and wait for news of more from all parties. That’s kinder than botching the discussion and stirring the pot further.

But I hope most of you stay on the tightrope and speak up loudly and clearly, as well as you can over the noise, especially now that it is so difficult to do.

The muslim community`s (judging by prominent muslim speaker`s fb statuses) response to this incident is ridiculous.

They could have used this incident to address the severe homophobia tha exists within muslim communities but no they had to get on their narcissistic high horses and complain about people linking the attack to islam saying its unfair.

That's always the response TDR. Battle lines are already drawn for them. It's never a fault of Islam, and how dare you say otherwise! On the other hand, from the anti-Muslim crowd, it's always the fault of Muslims. Every Muslim. All of the time.

@lua: I know that you want us to be able to elevate the discourse about this sort of thing, with your appeal to be cautious and reasonable. However, I'm almost at the point where I think most of the "discussion" is fundamentally fucked. When you have the two crowds talking the way they are, any reasonable person can't help but to say "fuck you", to either side. I'd say exactly the same if a Muslim or Islamic apologist said "homophobia has nothing to do with Islam" and "this guy is misinterpreting".

Islam has a problem with homophobia, and at this point in time it also has a problem with violent extremism. As an ex-Muslim it's rather hard to get at a solution to any of this. Essentially, this is a discussion that is to be had among Muslims about Islam. We can only facilitate it, by refusing to condemn all Muslims for such actions, while at the same time pointing out textual basis in Islam for homophobia, as yeez did, so that it cannot be escaped or denied away.

You're saying that it's difficult, and I know this. I'm tempted to jump to one side in particular in this climate. But, as I said: I hope most of you stay on the tightrope and speak up loudly and clearly, as well as you can over the noise, especially now that it is so difficult to do.

And yes, it's been said on here often, and probably by me too often: the change isn't going to come from the outside. This is a conversation Muslims need to have among themselves, and it's a battle that progressive Muslims are going to have with pretty much the entire rest of the world. We should be encouraging that dialogue, and part of that is being honest, as people who know these ropes pretty well, about the existence of these problems in many interpretations of Islam, and an equally important part is defending them against unfair condemnation and hostility.

They're going to wind up having to walk this thin line with us, and I hope we can try to make some room for them.

I`m always ready to defend progressive muslims but its increasingly difficult to defend the mainstream muslims with all the bs thats constantly coming from the community.

Even the relatively ok mosque I`ve attended since childhood had people handing out hizb ut tahrir flyers after friday prayers a few weeks ago.

Like fucking seriously with all the stuff going on with ISIS and your going to affiliate with a caliphate promoting organization  that is explicitly anti human rights.

urgh.. And the other mosque near my house is giving friday khutbahs where they talk about how its important to not send your kids to public schools where they will be corrupted by the morally bankrupt westerners and send them to islamic schools instead. Or all the islamic `scholars`` at popular mainstream sunni institutes in the U.S. and canada (al maghrib as an example) who openly talk about how apostates should be killed in islamic states.

Like the mosques themselves do not recruit people to extremist orgs but mainstream mosques and institutes do teach a puritanical form of religion than makes young teens vulnerable to be recruited by ISIS and other orgs like it.

Lua, the scare quotes were not to say there is no such thing as a peaceful muslim. I'm referring to the ones who talk islam is a religion of peace, but don't question the violent parts of quran/hadith.

Just to be clear, this is what you wrote:

I wonder how eager "peaceful" muslims will be to denounce these shootings?

When you place quotation marks around the word "peaceful" and follow it directly by Muslims, then your comment becomes nothing more than a dismissal of the idea that there are peaceful Muslims.

You can't then expect anyone to interpret your comment differently, nor can you then back track by explaining that you meant no such thing, you meant blah blah blah, which honestly, just doesn't fucking translate from your first comment.

I have Muslims on my facebook, ones in Morocco and in the UK, who instantaneously condemned the attacks, and are horrified by them.

Sure, they aren't analysing how Islam might increase hatred towards the LGBTQ community, but then your first comment didn't even hint that this was your true meaning.  It simply dismissed the idea that peaceful Muslims existed at all.

Loads of Muslims have cognitive dissonance with their belief, ergo it is perfectly possible for them to be peaceful and loving, whilst believing in their religion.

Next time you post, in order to avoid all of this confusion, make your meaning EXPLICIT from the get go.

Inhale the good shit, exhale the bullshit.

Can you blame them when most Muslims will say "It's not Islam" etc? To that degree Muslims make themselves distrusted as they would prefer emotionally to protect their "safety-blanket", than to accept its not perfect (to do so they may view as blasphemy/apostasy) and only use the nicer bits of it.

There are also Muslims who are queer/trans, and there have been many historically. In fact one of the Abbasid caliphs was openly gay.

    Quote
Caliph Al-Amin, the son of Harun al-Rashid, led the Muslim World despite being openly gay. Muslim historian Al-Tabari wrote that he fell madly in love with one of his male slaves, Kauthar, whom he had named after a river in paradise. Imam Daayiee Abdullah, who is openly gay, says Al-Amin’s mother went to great lengths, including fashioning young women in the harem into men, in order to lure her son from his homosexuality. Of course, she failed.

Florida gunman was 'mentally ill' with violent temper, ex-wife says

FORT PIERCE: The gunman who killed 50 people at an Orlando, Florida, nightclub in the deadliest mass shooting in US history was emotionally and mentally disturbed with a violent temper, yet aspired to be a police officer, his ex-wife said on Sunday.

Sitora Yusufiy, the former spouse of Omar Mateen, 29, identified as the shooter slain by police at the end of Sunday's massacre, also told reporters in a news conference aired on CNN that she was "rescued" by family members from her ex-husband after four months of a stormy marriage that ended in divorce.

    Quote
He was a body builder and a security guard, a religious man who attended the local mosque and wanted to become a police officer. Mateen was the son of an Afghan immigrant who had a talk show in the United States, the nature of which was not entirely clear: A former Afghan official said the program was pro-Taliban and a former colleague said it was enthusiastically pro-American.

He attended evening prayer services at the city's Islamic Center three to four times a week, most recently with his young son, said Imam Syed Shafeeq Rahman.

Although he was not very social, he also showed no signs of violence, Rahman said. He said he last saw Mateen on Friday.

“When he finished prayer he would just leave,” Rahman told The Associated Press. “He would not socialise with anybody. He would be quiet. He would be very peaceful. "He would pray and his son would play," said Rahman, who has known Mateen since 2003 when he became the imam.

He was also bipolar, Yusufiy, told reporters in Boulder, Colorado.

“He was mentally unstable and mentally ill,” Yusufiy said.

Although records show the couple didn't divorce for two years after the marriage, Yusiufiy said she was actually only with Mateen for four months because he was abusive. She said he would not let her speak to her family and that family members had to come and literally pull her out of his arms.

Authorities immediately began investigating whether Sunday's attack was an act of terrorism. A law enforcement official said on condition of anonymity the gunman made a 911 call from the nightclub professing allegiance to the leader of the militant Islamic State (IS), Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

Yusufiy said she was “devastated, shocked, started shaking and crying” when she heard about the shooting, but she attributed the violence to Mateen's mental illness, not any alliance with terrorist groups.

    Rahman agreed.

“My personal opinion is that this has nothing to do with ISIS,” he said.

I Think ALL ISLAM PREACHERS  and all those FAITH HEADS from all religions  who feverishly proselytize their faith are insane and mentally ill.. and that goes to that Imam of that mosque

Do not let silence become your legacy.. Question everything
I renounced my faith to become a kafir,
the beloved betrayed me and turned in to  a Muslim

There are also Muslims who are queer/trans, and there have been many historically. In fact one of the Abbasid caliphs was openly gay.

    Yep, that too.   yes

That list is full of Latinos and Spanish speaking folks..  That Brutal  rogue picked up that gay club because such places are soft targets and is nothing to do with he being against gay folks.

I disagree with you. He targeted that club because it was full of LGBTQ people, not because it was full of Latinos and Spanish speaking folks.

maybe it was down to his mental condition, but just because his mental condition increased his hate for queer people, does not make it any less of an attack on queer people, nor does selecting foreign sounding names, change the target of his hate, from queer, to Latino.

If it was a nightclub for Jewish people, then no one would be trying to say that actually it wasn't Jews who were the target, it was the Latinos who were also using that club.

I've seen a lot of people trying to dismiss the specific target of this crime, by making it about something else.  Not sure why they feel the need to do this.

Maybe only hate of the West, and hate of Jewish people, is legitimate hate in their eyes...

Inhale the good shit, exhale the bullshit.

Will also be interesting to see what kind of impact this horrible incident may have on the current US elections.. Perhaps Hillary's presidential campaign will be slightly (or greatly) affected.
