@Hassan: you are older and wiser than most of us. But I have the feeling that you attack and unfriend anyone who dares to speak negatively against Islam and it's followers, since you got a Muslim or agnostic Muslim again.

There are many people on this forum who are really sick of having to deal with anti-Muslim bigotry. It's enough that we have to deal with crap from some Muslims. It's enough that we get marginalized and ostracized and effectively kicked out of Muslim spaces. We don't want bigotry in the spaces we have created and nurtured for ourselves, so we get defensive when any kind of bigotry shows its face.

Please try to be empathetic. Bigotry is toxic because it's alienating. It takes away from us the spaces we need. Telling us we need to accept and respect bigotry is telling us we need to accept our alienation in our own spaces.

Well, at some members you might be right. Some of them have never been Muslims and just join the community because they are bigots. I understand if you don't show respect to them.

But I don't think that this is the case with fool me once.

As I say, I could be wrong. It won't be the first and won't be the last.

But that post set off alarms and right or wrong I reacted. End of.

It's just a shame but for me not surprising:

A Turkish conservative newspaper headlines the news with:
"Death toll rises to 50 in bar where perverted homosexuals go!"

    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/679361/Orlando-shooting

It even seems like they would celebrate the news.

However, I must say that this newspaper is rather small and not one of the major newspapers in Turkey. But it's still ashaming.

I haven't laughed so hard for a while.

I just had to comment. Dude is 100% neck-deep in it.

We should kill them, but not by using vigilante justice. We should kill them using proper channels.... Gee, makes everything sounds better... NOT.

I`m always ready to defend progressive muslims but its increasingly difficult to defend the mainstream muslims with all the bs thats constantly coming from the community.

Even the relatively ok mosque I`ve attended since childhood had people handing out hizb ut tahrir flyers after friday prayers a few weeks ago.

Like fucking seriously with all the stuff going on with ISIS and your going to affiliate with a caliphate promoting organization  that is explicitly anti human rights.

urgh.. And the other mosque near my house is giving friday khutbahs where they talk about how its important to not send your kids to public schools where they will be corrupted by the morally bankrupt westerners and send them to islamic schools instead. Or all the islamic `scholars`` at popular mainstream sunni institutes in the U.S. and canada (al maghrib as an example) who openly talk about how apostates should be killed in islamic states.

Like the mosques themselves do not recruit people to extremist orgs but mainstream mosques and institutes do teach a puritanical form of religion than makes young teens vulnerable to be recruited by ISIS and other orgs like it.

I get what you're saying; I always stand up to anti-Muslim bigotry but there are so many people within the communities that make me feel really dispirited and drained, at times I feel like a broken record. That's why I have to always remind myself to focus on the people who matter (Muslim family and friends) and ignore the people who don't.

If you're going to sit in circles and talk about how filthy, evil and wrong homosexuality is why agreeing that under a proper Caliphate such people should be put to death, don't be surprised when a mentally ill person being fed these teachings takes them literally and goes off on a rampage to kill a bunch of Gays.

RIP to everyone who lost their life :(

Milo Yiannopoulos (Gay Brit campaigning for Trump) is in Orlando now and will have a lecture later this week. When he gets on stage it's usually more or less chaotic with feminist/leftist/blacklivesmatter, #repressiveleft, storming the stage so this could get... 'interesting'.

Ah, a Yiannopoulos supporter, that explains it...

Actually if you read all my posts right from the very beginning of this forum you will find I'm exactly the same as I've always been.

Very hot headed if my Spidey senses detect a hater.

I often get it wrong, & make lots of mistakes - and I can be a real arsehole at times.

I've ALWAYS been like that - so don't give me that shit about "since becoming an Agnostic Muslim" crap.

But I don't give a fuck -  I am who I am - you can take it or leave it.

True, I have said the same to whoever is running the Jinn and Tonic show now (which used to be very good but has gone downhill).

I am uncomfortable with the way a portion of bigots are rearing their heads in our midst under the guise of being critics of religion. They are not needed.

But isn't hate speech allowed as long as you're quoting some religious verse to go along with it?

    Freedom of religion....!

Don't know if I should laugh or cry, but that's the situation right?

A religious man says gays should be killed - he's only quoting the scripture!
An atheist says gays should be killed - hate speech?

A religious man says committing gay "acts" is a sin - freedom of religion! You don't have to like my religion!
An atheist says being openly gay (gay sex included) is wrong - hate speech?

Isn't this where it's obvious that there is special privilege for religious people?

I am deeply saddened by this incident. 50 innocent lives lost just like that.

Going through the comment section, I see a lot of Muslims shouting the flawed logic that "White shooter = troubled, Muslim shooter = terrorist". Let me debunk this here:

Apart from only a hand full of exceptions like Breivik, most of these non Muslim mass murderers aren't motivated by any religious or political views. They are mostly just mentally ill people who managed to acquire deadly assault weapons due to USA's relaxed gun laws, and next minute their barbaric acts cost us hundreds of innocent lives. They don't do it for a personal, religious or political gains. Look at the recent murder of Christina Grimmie, or the Sandy Hook massacre, or the Colorado Cinema shooting, Port Arthur massacre here in Australia, the list just goes on. None of these low life attackers went on to publicly declare allegiance to any political or religious groups. They had nothing to gain, they were just a bunch of psychopaths. They were not trying to use terror as a means of coercion.

You are not looking at US acts of terrorism, then. Because we have way too many Christian terrorists to ignore, and you just glossed right over them by cutting out most of our history - which is exactly what our media does with white=troubled. Also we had our anti-Christian terrorist kids, too, whom our media decided were mentally ill. Which is worse, to ignore the acts or to explain them away?

Don't let Hitler have the street.

The problem with such counter attack against born again Christians like That Indian American Guy   Dinesh d'souza or Ali Sina or David Wood or  Francis Tanveer, of Pakistan is that  they will Quote from John

    Quote
    6. ..But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8 Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.

9 At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”

11 “No one, sir,” she said.

“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”

and tell you that so-called Christians are doing/did it in-spite of Christ preaching  where as in Islam it is because  Muslims are trying their best to follow Muhammad's sayings  and  Muhammad's footsteps ., So they commit these atrocities  . such as killing of gay folks who did nothing to them  without any second thought...

We have some more information about the motives of the gunman:
According to some witnesses he was visiting the club Pulse regularly in the last three years.
He even used a gay dating app and chatted with some people.

    http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-orlando-nightclub-shooting-20160613-snap-story.html

The possibility is quite high that the gunman was gay himself. But he couldn't live it, because of his religion and of his conservative father.
He maybe hated himself for being gay.
And he hated other people, who could live their life openly.

Gunman Omar Mateen Described as Belligerent, Racist and 'Toxic'  says News from AMRIKA.

A few key revelations about his past came to light hours after the 29-year-old was identified as the shooter who took hostages at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando early Sunday.

He was subsequently killed by a SWAT team.

An ex-co-worker told NBC News that Mateen was racist, belligerent and "toxic."  His father told NBC News his son was enraged after recently seeing a same-sex couple kissing in front of his family, an event that could have set him off.

In 2013, Mateen was interviewed twice by federal agents after co-workers reported that he made "inflammatory" comments to them about radical Islamic propaganda.

The following year, the FBI looked at him again because of ties with an American who traveled to the Middle East to become a suicide bomber.
Law enforcement sources told NBC News he swore allegiance to the leader of ISIS, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, in a 911 call moments before the rampage at Pulse.

There's no indication that Mateen was in touch with terrorists overseas or that the attack was directed by someone else, a law enforcement officials told NBC News. Nor is there evidence that anyone helped or encouraged him, several officials said.  Investigators are looking into whether religious extremism motivated the attack.

But when we look at Muslim terrorist attacks like the one at the Orlando bar, or at the Boston marathon, 7-7, Fort Hood shooting and numerous other incidents, every time we saw the Muslims attackers pledge allegiance to either Al Qaida or ISIS, or some other Islamist organisation. They committed an act of violence in order to send a message, in order to intimidate. That's why most of the shootings committed by Muslims are rightfully labelled an act of terrorism (if they have openly declared their reason behind committing the attacks as Islam). We can and should hold Islam responsible.

Now I am not saying other religions don't have fanatics who commits terrorism- they do. But most certainly not anywhere near the scale of the ones by Muslims. Again, I hate saying this multiple times-

most Muslims (99.99%)-> not a problem. Most of my friends whom I grew up with are still devout Muslims. And some of them are the best people I have ever met. But that is despite Islam, not because of it.

    Islam -> colossal problem.
