  • Repetition in the Quran
     OP - September 12, 2017, 09:57 PM

Why there are too many repetitions and retelling stories in the Quran? Why Allah repeats himself [Allah is male according to the Quran] in many verses and chapters of the Quran? If humans have a reason, intelligence and ability to understand then what is the wisdom beyond these repetitions and restatements?

Which repetitions are you talking about?

I know vaguely of certain phrases and ideas that are repetitive throughout the book, such as the constant assertion and reassertion of Muhammad being the messenger of Allah, and Allah knowing everything. These repetitions reinforce the belief in God and Muhammad the messenger, which is fundamental to keep his followers.

hello  Aqua .,  just to let you and other readers know ............ Quran   mentions the word "Muhammad" only four times  and those verses are

    Quote
3.144:    And Muhammad is no more than an apostle; the apostles have already passed away before him; if then he dies or is killed will you turn back upon your heels? And whoever turns back upon his heels, he will by no means do harm to Allah in the least and Allah will reward the grateful.

33.40:    Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but he is the Apostle of Allah and the Last of the prophets; and Allah is cognizant of all things.

    47. 2:    And (as for) those who believe and do good, and believe in what has been revealed to Muhammad, and it is the very truth from their Lord, He will remove their evil from them and improve their condition.

    48. 29:    Muhammad is the Apostle of Allah, and those with him are firm of heart against the unbelievers, compassionate among themselves; you will see them bowing down, prostrating themselves, seeking grace from Allah and pleasure; their marks are in their faces because of the effect of prostration; that is their description in the Taurat and their description in the Injeel; like as seed-produce that puts forth its sprout, then strengthens it, so it becomes stout and stands firmly on its stem, delighting the sowers that He may enrage the unbelievers on account of them; Allah has promised those among them who believe and do good, forgiveness and a great reward.

so that word "Muhammad" is not used repeatedly  in Quran

I've seen the words السموات والأرض repeated five times in a single Surah to the point where it seems the author of the Quran is mentally ill or is extremely stupid. And Muslims claim this is a miracle, what a joke of a book.

dear Mishael  what is the big deal  about an  Arabic poem repeating  those words   "السموات والأرض " ??  the author  just used  those  Arabic words "Heavens and the earth"  in a poem  to praise  ALLAH/GOD ..whatever  and singing a song ..

please  realize  Quran  IS NOT SINGLE AUTHOR BOOK...  you  know  that well if you  are an Arabic reader/speaker. hence I reject  your assertion  "that the author of the Quran was mentally ill or is extremely stupid."

after all it is  book  of Arabic sonnets ..songs and poems .,  nothing more and nothing less but I agree  with you that  THOSE MUSLIMS WHO CONSIDER QUARN AS WORD OF ALLAH/GOD LITERALLY ARE INDEED MENTALLY  ILL  AND, OR EXTREMELY STUPID...

If they claim it was uncreated with Allah and was sent to Mohammed then they are incredibly stupid. The Quran isn't even a good form of plagiarism, it's a bundle of poems all mixed up together to create the garbage now known as the Quran.

I am an ex Muslim by the way.

Mishael   you  are NOT  just ex Muslim .. you are  more  than that.,  you exited Islam and entered in to Evangelical  Churchianity.   Unfortunately on  some occasions  you forget the basic preaching  of  that 30 year old Jesus..  it is not your fault.,we all do that in the heat of the moment ...

    And did you  know that

"The name Jesus is derived from the Latin Iesus, a transliteration of the Greek Ἰησοῦς (Iesous). The Greek form is a rendering of the Hebrew ישוע‎ (Yeshua), a variant of the earlier name יהושע‎ (Yehoshua), or in English, "Joshua". The name Yeshua appears to have been in use in Judea at the time of the birth of Jesus" ??

    I did not....

I  wonder whether you read anything on  that "Gospel of Barnabas"  ..

So  what is cooking in Sand land and how are you doing?? ..  often i wonder about this new  young kiiiiiiiing with Pakistan's army and folks like   Ashraf Fayadh   and   Raif Badawi

I am fine. Thank you yezevee
Hope you are doing good too.
I have you in my mind always.
    just busy in life.
And you are right, there is no proof of existence of Jesus or Muhammad.
But I am comparing the personality of Jesus and Muhammad, what we have today in light of scriptures and texts.
And I support 21st century Protestantism, progressive and tolerant.
Religion is not that important in this modern age, but just for sake of society, I won’t mind people following some moral structure.
I like one thing about nonviolent religions, they put boundaries and limitations in people life. Which is not bad at all.
Just look American culture, now lack of religion is creating lot of problems here.
Rise of socialism and communism, people smoking weed and living on welfare.
So I believe, lower iq people should have some sort of religion to follow, to keep them in boundaries and make them productive.
Meanwhile higher iq people can also constrain themselves without religion.

You repeated word "my" 2 times in a sentence, yet you complain about a fixed semantical expression samawaati wa-l-ardi because it repeats 5 times in a chapter? Sorry, but such repetitions (and at that rate if not even more often) are certainly found in other religious books (including Bible, I bet), as well as in other books, as well. You know, it's called literature.
