  • Healthy (meaning diet lol) recipes to change up my weekly menu
     OP - October 25, 2008, 11:25 AM

Ok I need some healthy non fattening recipe ideas so that I can lose some weight and not suffer any negative side effects like my 2 year long starvation diet caused me Roll Eyes.

I want to create a planned weekly menu for next week and need some new ideas because my recipe repoirtare is lacking healthy low calorie low fat meals,  moroccan cooking isn't exactly lacking in fattening oils lol.

The best I an think of is grilled fish with steamed vag and that's really boring the pants of me at the moment.

If you have any ideas please add them, and if you know the calorie content add that too, but only if you know it.

    I don't want to pass 1,000 calories a day.

Inhale the good shit, exhale the bullshit.

At the end of the day Madame Berbette, its all about calorie in vs calorie out. You know some low calorie foods but the only way to get healthy skinny is exercise

Odd, I was told I wasn't allowed to be a vegetarian when I was a muslim, Allah showed that eating animals was A ok when he insisted you sacrifice an animal for eid, weddings, births etc etc and that by saying I didn't want to eat something that had been sanctified by allah I was in essence rejecting Islam.

Not to mention that the role model Mohammed always ate meat when it was available.

So how come you are a vegetarian? lol aloofandbored0

My mums a vegetarian, and she cooks for pretty much the whole family. Although I prefer being a vegetarian, if you've ever seen how meat is cooked you would too, it has blood and all slimy stuff ewwwww. Its ok to be a vegetarian in Islam.

Ok so I just ate, it was a mixture I just invented:

    Rice
    Half a sweet pepper
    One large mushroom
    2 smoked honeyed mackerel fillets
    half an onion
    1 tomatoe
    parsley
    coriander
    turmeric
    ginger
    black pepper

I fried the pepper, mushroom, onion and tomatoe for a couple of minutes and then added the smoked mackerel fillets all shredded up into the mixture. Added a pinch of all the herbs and spices, cooked it up a little more whilst the rice was boiling.

    Ate half a plate.

It was deeeeeelicious  Tongue, but how fattening does that sound?

I'll find some stuff for you in a bit Berbs.  Smiley

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I remain.

How would add it if you didn't know it?

It's the munchies and those snacks between meals that put on weight. Cut out the carbs and you won't ever have to eat bleedin' mackerel ever again! Afro

    Ha Ha.

Here is one of the quickest recipes and it tastes very good:

Slice a Zuccuni, put it in an oven for 30 mins or a microwave for 10-15 mins. Make sure there a chicken broth or a cube (preferably a maggi). If the broth does not have enough salt then add some.

Enjoy your quickie and thank me later. If it is not filling you then add some oil or butter to it after it finishes cooking.

This meal you can eat all you can and the calorie count is almost negative. You can add minced meat but then you are just count the calories (it is still not much).

And remember the best thing for a diet is to drin 2-3 liters of water a day. Drinking this much water consistenetly requires more will power then going to the gym by the way.

I was trying to show that even if you didn;t know the calorie content you should still post the recipe if you think it's one of the healthier meals in your arsenal, you know....no pressure.  bunny

I love mackerel fillets though  Wink and if I snack at all, which is barely, it usually replaces a meal.  If I even allow myself to have a meal most of the time.

Usually toast keeps me going and frankly toast and marmite can get a bit boring lol

    What is a zuccini?

And I hate water vomit however I do know I should be drinking it.  If I scrapped the endless cups of tea for midly flavoured water I would free up literally half of my calorie intake at the moment.

He (your dad) could always use the argument "Don't make haram what Allah has made halal", and "Muhammad ate meat. Are you better than the Sunnah of Rasool Allah?"

Rabiah Al-Basriyah was vegetarian tho. But so was Ar-Razi.

I may be obsessed but I already know what to do lol I just need some recipes so that it doesn't get too boring when I give up all my addictions, like tea and sugar and bread and marmite, all so bad for me.  Tongue

Hey Berbs...sorry it took so long.  Smiley

Gimme some food that you won't eat. Then we can narrow it down some.

Here is a little something to get started.

Chicken with Tomatillo and Cilantro sauce

    1 pound tomatillos, husked
    3 serrano chiles, stemmed
2 whole skinless chicken breasts (about 2 1/2 pounds), halved
    1 tablespoon olive oil
    1 medium onion, diced
    3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro, plus extra for garnish
1 teaspoon salt, plus extra for sprinkling
1 tablespoon pumpkin seeds, toasted 5 minutes in dry cast-iron pan over medium heat

Move broiler rack into position closest to flame. Set broiler to medium. Place tomatillos and chiles on a rimmed baking sheet; broil until soft and blackened in spots, about 5 minutes. Turn; broil other side 5 minutes. Remove from broiler and transfer to a food processor; blend. Increase broiler heat to high. Place chicken on same baking sheet and sprinkle with salt. Broil chicken until browned, about 9 minutes. Turn; broil other side 9 minutes. Heat oil in a large saucepan over low heat; cook onion and garlic, stirring occasionally, until soft and golden, about 5 minutes. Add pureed tomatillos and chiles; simmer uncovered, 2 minutes. Add cilantro and 1 teaspoon salt. Gently place chicken in sauce. Simmer, covered, until meat is cooked through, about 20 minutes. Sprinkle with pumpkin seeds and cilantro.

Courgette is how we call it in French too. In Arabic it is often called Koussa.

1000 calories doesn't sound too healthy. I don't believe in calorie counting but even those who do say 1400-1500 should be it for dieting. Just sayin'.

I must agree with you. 1200 calories is about the minimum you should go. Otherwise you run the risk of your body thinking it's starving and stopping any weight loss.
