My point is that there is no unified curriculum for every single 'madrassah'. It varies from school to school. Tell me the curriculum of 'The Christian School', or 'The Jewish School', 'The Atheist School', or whatever, and then I can answer you. But you cannot, so therefore I cannot.

There is not too much variation in the curricula of a Madrassa or in any proper  "Muslim School." I can tell you the curriculum, of a typical madrassa, if you will allow me to unfold what I know. But I cannot do so if you choose to tell me off and imply I do not no nutting. Those facts are all in my next article, But I will have to see if it will be rejected before it is posted. I have joined this "Council of ExMuslim forum" because I believe in this movement and I fully support it, but if you believe that what I have said does not support your cause then I am thoroughly confused.

Ok. How did you attain your knowledge about the madrassah curricula. You've been to many?

Elle you need to stop making these shoddy generalisations about what you think all or most muslims do and say.  Informed discussion and comment is always welcome, but this is not a forum for people who want to air their prejudices against muslims, or any other group.

I know way more about Islam now that I'm not a Muslim anymore. Memorizing the Quran in old Arabic language no one understands means next to NOTHING.

It means you can recite it by memory which can be useful but that's about it!

It has a use, although it's not going to be major. You've taken something from that.

Iggy, that is what I meant when I was referring to the system of education in an Islamic school, in particular a Madrassa. From a very young age, all devout Muslim families will want their children to learn about Islamic ways and the first step is to recite as much of the Qur'an as possible in Arabic. I could be even word and tone perfect, but without realizing the significance of what it means in real life. That is what I was inferring about Islamic education especially at the Primary and Middle school education. And most ordinary people in Pakistan and the Middle East only study in formal schools till the end of Middle schools as far as Islamic studies is concerned.

     Reply #53 - November 06, 2008, 10:13 PM

Sojournerlumus, believe me, I have stood back and contemplated hard and long. I have studied Islam for the past 10 years, and that is more than most Muslims study the Qur'an, Hadiths, Islamic history, Mohammed's biography, and Sharia Law and I have not studied it in isolation but alongside Buddhism, Taoism, Christianity, Modern history, and present history. So I have looked at it in order to understand Islam, not to criticize Islam or ridicule it.

I promised some of you that I will not be DULL!

    Is that your greatest concern?

No Iggy, my greatest concern is to spread truth and the correct perception to anyone who will listen. And to dispel myths and misconceptions. I only mentioned being dull because I was asked the reasons why I wanted to join this "Ex-Muslim" site, and I said to learn and to share knowledge about Islam. I also said that I could contribute what I know about Islam here. But some may have wondered how could a non-Muslim name know anything about Islam. So I had to prove that I am not dumb and dull. But maybe you may still think I am dumb and dull and know nothing but then you have to be the judge, and I am before the jury.

Sorry, Elle, I should have been more specific. I meant 'stand back and look at the way the interchanges happen in this forum.' And I don't doubt your credentials. People don't come here because they feel they need to prove anything, but debate's OK.

Sorry, is this a debating group? I prefer not to debate but to discuss different points of views. And here within a few replies 3 people telling me to chill out! Why? I am not ruffled! Am I not allowed to say what I believe in here? By asking questions I am ruffling your feathers? Let's discuss specifics.
