  • O for the Wings of a Fly
     OP - December 09, 2008, 07:20 PM

We've already come across Dr. Ahmad Al-Muzain, Palestinian expert on Koranic science, talking about the difference between male and female urine . Here he is again, on Al-Aqsa TV, discoursing on the Prophet Muhammad, flys' wings, and AIDS http://www.memritv.org/clip/en/1889.htm:

The Prophet Muhammad said: "If a fly falls into your drink, you should dip it in the drink, and then dispose of the fly, because one of its wings bears a disease, and the other wing bears the cure." This hadith was included in the Al-Bukhari collection. This hadith makes it absolutely clear that the Prophet Muhammad confirmed a clear scientific fact: If a fly falls into a vessel ? before a person drinks from this vessel, he should dip the fly in his drink, before disposing of it. Then he should drink the beverage, because it won't do him any harm. Why? Because one of the fly's wings bears the disease, and the other one bears the cure.   [...]

In Germany, the Church paid a very large sum of money to two scientists to disprove this hadith. Since this hadith appears in the Al-Bukhari collection, we cannot claim that it is unreliable or anything, and so they thought that if they could prove that this hadith contradicts science, they would be dealing a devastating blow to Islam.   [...]

The scientists took samples from the wings of flies, and began to examine them, analyze them, and take samples from their surface, in order to expose what existed on each wing. The devastating result constituted a slap in the face. The truth was devastating, and it backfired on them. The two scientists reached an astounding conclusion. They said that on one of its wings, the fly carries a huge amount of different types of bacteria, which adhere to it when it lands on rotting pieces of food that it eats. As for the other wing, Allah has given the fly the great ability to carry antidotes to these microbes.   [...]

When Bayer, one of the world's largest pharmaceutical companies, learned about this study, it derived great benefit from it. It established biological breeding farms, where they would raise flies and extract antibiotics from their wings ? the strongest antibiotics in the whole world. This antibiotic was made into a course of five pills, which is given to the patients, and it is used ? believe it or not, my brothers ? to treat AIDS patients. It strengthens their immune system, and destroys all types of microbes with which they are afflicted. This is all thanks to the power of this antibiotic. Obviously, this antibiotic is very expensive, and one course costs more than $500, but it is very strong and effective. How did they discover it? From this hadith.   [...]

Did the Prophet Muhammad have labs to carry out research? Did Abu Bakr know anything about entomology, parasitology, or bacteriology? Of course not. Absolutely not. So how did they make all these scientific accomplishments? The only logical conclusion is that this science was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad by the Creator.

If anyone knows where I can buy the pills please post below; a fly did fall into my beer, I was going to dip it in completely but then I wondered maybe it is only the good wing that has touched my beer!

Cheesy Cheesy islamic hadiths are the funniest, anyways try beating this hadith.  Cheesy Cheesy

In this day and age the ummah is still wrestling with this problem ...

On men shaking hands of strange women - those that are not Mahram for a man. This is one of the widespread problems that we suffer from and none is saved from it except he whom Allah has favored. This act is prohibited (Haraam) because the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
    Quote
“To pierce a metal comb into a man’s head is better for him than for him to touch a woman, for whom he is not a Mahram. “ (Silsilatul Ahadeeth As-Saheehah, no. 227)

But surely, if you've got both  wings, what have you got to worry about anyway. It's the bloody fly that's got my sympathy for being hatched into La-La land.

My favorite funniest hadith is Allah sticking a flag in your  ass..

It is narrated on the authority of Abu Sa'id that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: On the Day of Judgment there will be a flag fixed behind the buttocks of every person guilty of the breach of faith.

    One of mine is:

SB 88:232 - Allah's Apostle said, "The Hour will not be established till the buttocks of the women of the tribe of Daus move while going round Dhi-al-Khalasa."

So we need to keep a watch for these buttocks, so we can tell when the end is nigh.

Knowing Islam is the only true religion we do not allow propagation of any other religion. How can we allow building of churches and temples when their religion is wrong? Thus we will not allow such wrong things in our countries. - Zakir Naik

You just proved that Islam is incomplete in some parts and we needed the guys from Bayer to come along and make full use of the good info left for us by the prophet.

For more that 1400 we never knew which wing, I still do not know which wing!  Only the infidels at Bayer know!

If that were the case...then the rising tide of AIDS in Africa is in direct conflict with that hadith...considering there are a shit load of flies over there dipping their wings in absolutely everything...including drinks....  Cry

If the Quran stood all by itself...Islam might perchance have a shot at being considered a somewhat rational religion....but throw in the hadith and you just have madness and complete nonsense. Even in my stronger faith years I just couldnt wrap my head around hadith...but somehow they have gained more validity then the Quran itself...  Huh?

Ok...forgetting that he doesnt seem to know what an antibiotic is, or thinks AIDS is an infection.....

maybe he can direct someone towards the actual research? Anything? Oh, that's right, you just need to say it and pretend it is true, and stupid people will believe it. Bayer used fly wings to produce the strongest antibiotic in the woooooorld, its a five pill series....What's it called? Bah, details!

Jesus on a hamburger, people are stupid. This guy is a "Dr."? Are you kidding me? Is this an "educational" program?

Sorry to bump up this thread but what about this article:

    http://www.abc.net.au/science/articles/2002/10/01/689400.htm

I know the process they describe isn't as simple as dipping the fly into your drink, neither do they mention the fly's wings having the anti biotics, but whenever you bring up this hadith, muslim point to this article.

It's been 10 years now since this 'research' was done, has there been a follow up to verify this?
  • Re: O for the Wings of a Fly

That article claims that "The surface of flies is the last place you would expect to find antibiotics."  Well it may be the last place that the scientifically illiterate author expects to find antibiotics, but its the first place that I would expect to find them.  They do literally live in shit afterall.
Moreover, since the article also states that the scientists were "working on the theory that flies must have remarkable antimicrobial defences to survive rotting dung, meat and fruit", it obviously didnt come as a suprise to the scientists either.

I dont believe it came as a suprise to other scientists either. The research was a small part of a young PhD student's project. It wasnt published in science journals. I dont believe that this was ground breaking research, or came as a suprise to anybody (apart from muslims). I have contacted the scientist in question, but she was not interested.

We have known for a long time that antimicrobial peptides are produced by practically all species. I actually believe that it is literally 100% of species. In every species where we have looked, we have found them, including the dreaded pig. You find them in horse sweat, and on the skin of humans.

Do Muslims also suggest dipping a pig in your drink to sanitise it?

The research certainly comes nowhere close to suggesting that flies have a disease on one wing, and it's cure on the other.

It is obviously absolutely terrible advice to dip a fly in anything you consume, and you will not find a single scientist or doctor who disagrees. Muslims should be embarrassed by people who try to defend this nonsense
