    I am beginning to have doubts whether Secular Humanism is something that appeals to me, since many atheists argue that it is almost like a proto-religion with its insistence on following a certain list of values, even if they do tend to make sense but it seems to arbitrary and ad-hoc rather than genuine understanding.  popcorn

    I would say that the first video interview is the main reason behind it. The National Secular Society President gives some good pointers.

    Watch from 3:00 to around 4:45

    yep, humanism is more of a philosiophical outlook on life, rather than a religion with adherents..

    It may have to stay for now, or at least up until you find a better way of defining yourself other than "I am me" or the negative "I am an exmuslim" camps.

    Anyway, I still think secular humanists are the coolest dudes in the block.

    To be fair I was 'in' and 'out' of Islam when I was a Muslim. Came here, became a sceptic and now I'm an atheist. Looking into humanism.

    I was raised Mormon as well, though I don't usually advertise it, just like I don't advertise that I used to be Muslim. So for me it was

    Mormon -> Theist -> Muslim -> Atheist

    And yes, it is crazy what they believe, but they don't see it that way, much like Muslims don't think it's crazy to believe in jinns and the evil eye.

    It took me a few years to think it over, but when the time came, I made a big leap from Islam to Atheism. No reason to believe in Allah if you don't believe in the religion that created him. And no reason to go to another religion when you just left one.

    Agreed.  I mean I can see the appeal, but you'd have to be prepared to sacrifice all the reasoning skills that you used to see through Islam, and to be honest once you've gained that reason, it's far too hard to let go of it.

    All religions look equally as batshit insane to me, as Islam does now.
