To clarify, I meant I couldn't recall reading a hadith on Iblis being an angel. The vid just summed up what I already knew. Smiley

`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad.  You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

He isn't, technically, but he is mentioned in the same breath as angels, as well as being described as a jinn. For people who can't believe that the authors of the qur'an could be so contradictory, it's a case of jinn (or at least Iblis) being a subset of angels.

    Strong muslim -> doubts -> agnostic -> atheist -> exam time -> emotional fears -> weak muslim -> atheist -> deist -> it'scomplicatedist

I've apostatised more times than I have fingers on my hand since the original major one about a year ago.

My general trend is that I have some major rational/moral contentions with Islam, but during times like exam season, I get this faux emotional "connection" to 'god', because unfortunately I've learnt to associate times of hardship with 'god'. So the self-indoctrination still hasn't receeded fully yet.

And after times of hardship I suddenly remember the reasons why I left originally, and can't square these away with the concept of the caring 'god' I keep crawling back to (with less and less conviction each time).

    This sucks man.

    I'm a dude.

You think God gets you through exams, mate?

Its been you all along. If that's not something to draw comfort and confidence from, I don't know what is.

    how fuck works without shit??

I guess I never thought of it like that haha.

Problem is I've programmed myself to think 'its arrogant to attribute success to anyone but allah' cos the whole 'people of 'ad and thamud' thing was drummed into me since forever. (Yet at the same time I'm conscious of the fact that I don't even believe Allah exists. Doublethink at it's finest).

    I'm a dude.

I personally find it hard to attribute success to god, without remembering all the people, and children around the world that this same god only dishes out suffering to.

Like what makes getting me a top mark in an exam, more worthy than stopping the torture and abuse of some young girl in a war torn nation?  how do I warrant saving anymore than that person did?

Oh, and your username is beyond EPIC.  It has to be said.   Afro

Yeah I'm really seeing where you and asbie are coming from.

But I suppose it's because I left about December-ish, so relatively recent. Even now in my subconscious I'm thinking "it's obviously just a test", though I've never really stopped to think about the implications of that cliché.

[Also, secretly hoping you like my username (assuming you were talking to me) because you know where it's from, though I'm gonna take it as a compliment to my impeccable taste regardless dance Tongue ]

Muslim>doubting Islam> suppressing my doubts and accepting Islam> More doubts> Atheism

My cycle exactly! However at the start of my atheism i had lots of guilt and fear.
