hahaha! Thanks Baal! Shall do! If someone wants to fed ex me some snow I'd be more than happy!! To think that Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia have bushfire conditions and Queensland is having flooding at the moment! What crazy weather we're having in our different states at the moment!

Holy crap, what kind of an idiot throws a cigarette butt on the ground in tinderbox dry conditions in the middle of forest fire season!?

I don't know... but witnesses know the car he was driving and his description...he hasn't got much time left in the free world lol.

Anyway, glad you're safe.  I wonder if Os' area is affected?  He hasn't been online much the last couple of days, I hope he hasn't had to evacuate his house suddenly.   Huh?

OH Os!!!!!!!! Does anyone know (roughly) where Os is in Australia?

Shit! I really hope nothing happens to him. Hopefully he will be fine. He will.

They've got it covered that much? Just shows how many caring people there are in Aus.

Yeah and this is in the darn economic crisis! Major banks and businesses are donating money/goods as well. I've never been so proud to be an Australian!!

Os has posted more recently than that in the Mods forum.  He was logged in today as well, so hopefully he's okay.

Heartbomb  I'm worried about now.  Does anybody know if she's in Victoria?

One the map you can see where the main bit would have started and which way it's spread. The West looks untouched though. Let's hope it stays that way.

Oh, and Australia is 4king HUGE!!

yes I hope so. It sounds bad, but at least NSW and WA (2 other states with fire danger) have seen what could happen. Forewarned is forearmed I guess.

Yeah, better be safe than sorry. Hopefully they will have a green speech mark instead of a red one. Fingers crossed, I suppose.

Sorry to hear about the devastation in your part of the world, for those out there. As I was coming to work a few mins ago, there was a report on BBC radio 4.

Very sad to hear what people went thru. Also they spoke to a criminolist there and asked him what is the profile of persons that would lend themselves to arson.

I thought oh no hope the 'M' word is not mentioned. Well thankfully it wasn't. The guy spoke about young people with grouses, people obsessed with fire, fire engines, people who applied for firemen jobs and were turned down, that sort of thing.

Knowing Islam is the only true religion we do not allow propagation of any other religion. How can we allow building of churches and temples when their religion is wrong? Thus we will not allow such wrong things in our countries. - Zakir Naik

I checked the map and I swear it's getting worse.  Huh?

More big fires around now and less safe zones

You know, recently regarding some other fires, actual firemen have been arrested as arsonists! In many parts of Victoria (my state), we have the CFA (country fire association) and the only firemen we have are unpaid volunteers, so there's no chance of being 'turned down'. I hope they catch these arsonists soon.

@Singh: yep you're right. As soon as the firefighters manage to get one town safe, the fire starts up somewhere else. The current confirmed death toll is 181, and there are strong predictions it could go as high as 300.

    Damn, 181 already? Fuck

Ive been checking the map as well. It was pretty bad this morning as well. When is this all expected to stop? Will it even stop?

I hope so. We need the winds to stop and some cool weather. If not, the end of bushfire season is usually the end of March. On the bright side, Australians donated 31 million dollars in 2 days for the victims, and the Prime Minister (Kevin Rudd) announced that there'd be no cap on money from the Government. Even many people in Queensland (top right state in Australia) who are suffering bad flooding are going to donate ALL their assistance money to the Vic Bushfires.

If anyone is interested, the best coverage is on ABC Radio website (our emergency services radio station).

We have cool weather in my town now, so hopefully it will come for the rest of the state. Although  it IS summer, so I'm not holding my breath.

Don't worry Melbourne is safe I'm sure your family are fine!

Those pictures are heart-warming. It's hard to believe they're that tame.

I really hope they get each and every person responsible for this outrage and throw the book at them! I keep turning on the news and seeing the devastation and it's just sickening. All these charred cars with bodies in them and dead bodies littering the roadside. The stories coming out of Oz just make my heart sick  Cry
