The west makes Islam look it self in the mirror.
Its more complex and universal than just the west, although the locations of the most effective dissent will arise from ex Muslims doing what their birthright of citizens of countries like America, Britain, France etc etc empowers them to do.
I think this catches Islam off guard. All of a sudden, its not Islam screaming at other belief systems in terms that it is comfortable with. Essentially its one myth convinced of its own truthfulness screaming at another. That is Islam's engagement with the non Islamic other over the ages. Its he who screams, declares and fights longest, loudest in a certain space. Islam versus Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, etc etc etc.
But when confronted by the condition of liberal secular modernity and democracy, Islam can't just shout and declare itself, meeting Christian opposition with ever louder declarations of its superiority over another religion full of its own flaws and myths. Its caught off guard.
Islam declares itself, and then liberal secular democracy, which is like a party, just shrugs its shoulders, laughs, and carries on with its conversations. Its like, yeah. LoLz, whatever. And this is infuriating to many Muslims, especially when this party starts to be so seductive to Muslims, who start questioning and rejecting Islam. And then infuriated by this, and infuriated by the indifference of this party, it screams and sulks and throws things about to draw attention to itself.
But ultimately, this is just going to make its absurdities and flaws and crudities even more apparent to everyone at the party. Islam is totally wrong footed.
