  • Near Death Experience ?
     OP - February 20, 2009, 10:08 PM

Hi Y'all, I'm just back from the dead. I think this must be a first for this forum, eh?

I had 4 massive angina attacks in a day, a week last Monday, the last one of which was in A & E luckily. When I keeled over in there I got the full treatment since my blood pressure almost fell off the scale, down to 64/42 and falling. So I got the atropine and adrenalin but pulled out of almost total unconsciousness by telling myself to fight. I seemed to be trapped in a big, diffuse bubble of light that kept fading and waxing again, although my eyesight had gone.
I could hear faint disembodied voices in the distance saying stuff like 'It's down, it's down, it's down.'  'Reading?'  '64/42'. 'Give it now'. 'he's steady, he's steady'.
So, although they had fastened the defibrilator pads on ready, they didn't have to use them. Ah, well, maybe I'll get to experience that next time.
Anyway, after 9 days in hospital, I'm home again and awaiting an angioplasty with stent, after which I'm told, I might even get back to some jogging. My heart, it seems, is undamaged.

I just want you all to know that it wasn't painful, just 'heavy', and I didn't get to see St Peter or Old Nick. If that's what death is like, then I'm not afraid of it.

You just didn't want to leave without finishing the chess game.   Wink

I'm glad you're okay though.  You'll have to take it easy now, no more gallivanting round the place.

Welcome back, I was wondering where you had gone.

I was not blessed with the ability to have blind faith. I cant beleive something just because someone says its true.

You're the first I've heard to see the tunnel of light and come back, without claiming to see God on the other side waiting with open arms.  Or claim that your spirit rose out of your body and was watching from the top corner of the room.

In any case glad to see your back..

Good to hear you're back.  Sounds like you were on the edge of going over but brought yourself back.

Take it easy and enjoy the fishing!

Thanks Nour,  It all adds to the spice of life, I suppose. Maybe I'll go for the full defibrillation next time, just to see what it's like. Wink
I hate being wrapped in cotton-wool though, but it'll be worth it to get to my stent op. without a hitch.

Wow, good to here you got thru and you're in good spirits so soon after.

So you didn't get to see relatives already gone or Jesus enticing you to join them in the light, as is so common with NDE?

Well take it easy and control that diet. And don't foget the recommended exercise.

    Thanks A G,
Nope, nothing exciting at that stage. And the only 'angels' there were in white coats with their sleeves rolled up. I'm just writing them a big Thank You card at the moment.

As for the exercise, that's out at the moment I'm afraid. The complication that caused my angina attacks was infected sinuses, giving me dizzy spells and nausea. On the day, I was talking to a guy who was about to chop down a couple of trees on my lawn and the next thing I knew the world was spinning and I was on the grass squirting myself under the tongue with the old glyceryl trinitrate spray. Fastest draw this side of Yuma!
Seems the stress of the giddiness was enough to set off an angina attack. After 2 more attacks at home, it was an ambulance to the hospital, stabilisation, and then , we think, a dodgy tuna sandwich in the A&E rest room. My wife shared it with me and we both went down with a horrendous case of food poisoning that lasted 4-5 days.
Anyway, an hour after the sarny, I keeled over on the stretcher as my blood pressure was being checked and was rushed into resuscitation. You know the rest from there.

    Thanks, PS,
My own miserable condition was bad enough but worse still was the lot of suffering humanity all around me. The first ward a mixed ward (bad for women I think), indescribable smells, the calls and moans of unmitigated suffering, the noise, the bump and the bustle, staff under intolerable pressure, etc.
I've got to hand it to the staff of all grades. I was impressed and humbled.
