Just finished watching that documentary "A Jihad for love". I feel sorry for the guys. According to orthodox understanding the prohibition is fairly clear. They are are gonna have a seriously hard time trying to get it accepted. Unfortunately, it's just trying to square the circle once again.

I was disappointed in "Jihad for Love" even though I acknowledge the bravery of the filmmakers and the people who appeared in it. One story about two women? I sort of felt like "wow, even in a topic like this, Muslim women are underrepresented and ignored?"

And even though Muslims in the UK, etc aren't that big, percentage wise, it is Muslims from the western countries who really brought this up into people's faces in the first place (look even Muhsin Hendricks is from a western country), so I would have liked to see some interviews or background as far as that sort of activism in the west.

But you know, it's a start anyway. But I think the only way it will ever be even marginally accepted is if there is a major change in the way people view the Quran. The way it is now, it won't happen.

Did any of you see 'Trembling before g-d?' It's about gay people from the orthodox Jewish tradition.

Changes like that certainly won't happen during our lifetime and maybe not for another two hundred years. One of the things that the muslims take pride in, is that as an "ummah" they've not been through some kind of reformation the way the Jews and Christians have or have had revisions to their text. Yes there have been reformers that have come along, but they have been cast aside as heretics or even apostates. Changes will only really be counted if it comes from within the orthodox.

This is why religious identity is so f'n stupid.
The way they try to square a circle is insane.....even if he can make the case that homosexuality is not explicitly prohibited by name in the quran..... since homosexuals cant marry each other the only way they can even be gay is to commit adultery...and then again tada....Now, you are going to have a lot of work on your hands to somehow rewrite the quran to approve of gay marriage.

They might as well be Laissez-faire Marxists.
