    Why did I come here again... Thinking hard oh yeah, I just wanted to ask a question.

    I remember Dr. Jeffrey Lang. When I was a member of Muxlim, I, and other Muslims always glorified him. However, now that I look at it logically, he's explanations for the Quran doesn't hold any strength.

    For instance, in his book, he sees the story of Adam and Eve, Jinns etc. to be allegorical. At the best, he's a 'reformed' Muslim without admitting it. Much like Irshad Manji, although she does admit it. I have no problem with reforming Islam. He firmly believes in evolution, something also most Muslims are strongly against.

    If you read his book, you can see that most of his story about him converting to Islam is very personal. His father was a very violent man. He was a complete drunk that beat his children and his wife constantly. So it's safe to say he had a rough childhood. Then, he became an atheist being a former catholic. Later in his life he found Islam, and the rest of it is more of an "emotional" journey rather than a "logical" one.

    At any rate, he didn't prove anything. He didn't give evidence for god. Holding something from the Quran as an allegorical meaning doesn't mean god exists. All it means is that you just put your own twist into the concept of god. That's all.

    I watched up to video 3 and found he made some good points that Muslims don't want to hear.

    Basically that very many 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation Muslims etc... are simply drifting quietly away from Islam and that what is sustaining the Muslim communities in the USA is immigrants - not homegrown Muslims.

    Not sure if that is so true in the UK where  many 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation Asian Muslims still seem to be faithful to the religion of their parents.

    But I do agree that there are VERY many who are simply silently disappearing off into the ether and are in effect 'ex-Muslims'.

    As far as Asians come into it, they all stick together. Even during in school and the real gangs after school. So much so that you'll find some sixth form colleges almost totally asian. Aye, I'm supposing that the parents teach their kids to not have non-muslim friends, as my parents did.

    I read through the first link, did that seriously make you go anti-porn? All research regarding whether porn does harm has shown that it doesn't. That story does not even back it's points up nor does it include any scientific research. It made a conclusion by attacking something.

    No he doesn't exactly bring it up in his book. He does however say it in a Q & A portion in a lecture.

    I recommend going through that entire series though. It's a great lecture. Though I disagree with his view on Islam, and reasons for converting, I still admire his courage to stand up and give his own take on the religion.

    Suggesting that the porn channels the Kurds in Turkey could receive, are the reason for those honour killings is such an unbelievably dumb idea. You have to wonder how much fucked in the head that journalist has to be. First of all, I imagine the average Kurd can decide which channels he wants to keep in the list after an automatic channel scan. Secondly, how are the males even supposed to watch those channels, which probably only show tease material and no hardcore scenes.

    I think the tube is placed in the living room most of the time. Do you seriously think the males would watch those channels while the female family members are there, too? And even if they managed to secretly watch some boobs and pussies, how in God's fucking name is this going to corrupt the character of a man in such a way, that he would consider killing his sister or daughter for "besmirching the family's honour"!?

    The reason for these killings is quite simple: They have this sick concept that a female's pure vagina equals family honour, and impure females have to be killed to restore the honour. I know that sounds pretty insane, but it's true and it still happens.

    Don't blame the porn, man. May Aphrodite guide and help us all.

    Jeff Lang has had a very long and public struggle with his religious belief, and a lot of that is documented in his books (including the atheism stuff).  I hope that sooner or later, he just embraces his issues and stops trying to make heads or tails of it, because it's like someone else here said - it's emotion that's keeping him going, not something else.

    As for the porn stuff, I ditto what Aziz said.

    Countries with bans on pino are not doing too well Faro. On the social and creative level they are quite backwards. And their zeal to acquire pino is beyond the norm and their tendency to look for perverted pino is becoming quite legendary.

    If you want to ban pino, plz stay away from the society I live in. Pick *any* of those societies already banning pino and enjoy your stay with them.

    I just read through that. The woman's crazy. She favors the criminalization of prostitution over legalization and regulation. She also wants to boycott American Apparel simply because the owner is supposedly a sexist and uses sexist marketing (like just about every other company in the West).     Just saying she's a jerk. I don't think the anti-porn arguments are all without merit, but this woman wants sexual commodification criminalized and wants even more people thrown into jail for victimless crimes, force prostitution further underground where the women can be more easily abused and exploited, and she wants to wreck a business that provides good wages and benefits for workers in an industry where that is very rare. In other words her obsessive crusade makes her feel morally justified in implementing measures that would create great destruction, oppression and personal harm all in the pursuit of the "greater good".
