We could have been a bit easier on her..

We were easy on her. Some people just don't like being challenged on their views. I'm surprised she bothered to post here, she said she lurks here so she should have guessed what type of reception she'll receive. This is a forum that loves to debate on issues.

It was her only her first post and we were easy on her, compared to someone like Ahmad who was aggressive from the start - he deserves everything he gets because he had his chance and he blew it.  She was a floater, and just wanted to slowly mould into the environment.  We were trying to force her into that mould, and she just was not ready. If she replied to the questions, which she as yet does not have an answer for,  she knew she would have looked silly.

I thought the only thing she could do was cut & run, and thats just what she did.

In fact I am quite surprised Marleya is still here, but Rashna was very sweet in empathising with her ploy.

I thought I was extremely understanding too, read my posts, but if that's not soft and sweet enough I can't do any better.

It wasn't nice of course when finallyfree used terms like "your god" in an aggressive manner.

Infact I think us staff need to have a discussion about how best to deal with the greetings being dished out by members who could ease back awhole lot more....

Shit my mistake I shouldn't have posted here.

    Bye.

Its all very well saying nothing, but it wouldn't be much of a forum if all our posts were blank would it?  Most people welcomed her, a few asked questions and offered opinions.  I don't see what the big deal is.

Exactly, she would have left soon anyway. This isn't her type of forum if she cant handle a few questions.

He has been conditioned by FFI, so I cut him some slack.

Cheetah was the only one who cut him some slack and empathised with him when he first joined, and he thanked her for it subsequently. Because of her, he is probably still here and of all the forum members, he should have been the least aggressive and the most lenient.

Nope Islame, Berberella is right, I was completely wrong. I thought this forum is a good place to post and ask questions and express my opinion but that was stupid of me.

What I thought at the time is that she was making religious assertions in her introductory post-assertions that were not stated as mere beliefs rather than anything else, if she had posted: "Hello, I'm a Muslim, I want to learn more about why people leave Islam" I would have said: "Hi, welcome, read some posts and gain some understanding". Rather, she wanted to make assertions I wanted to ask a simple question

But I realise it was wrong to ask questions because questions are evil and chase people away. When I first came no one asked me questions they simply told me to fuck off and called me a nazi by association etc, but I didn't mind I wanted to learn. I ask one question and I am blamed for her leaving, if I could take it back I would but at the same time if someone can't handle one question they shouldn't be on the internet.

Anyway, Berberella was right, I shouldn't have asked and I shouldn't have been "aggressive", it's wrong for me to be here scaring people off.

    Take care everyone.

I'm going to buy everyone an industrial size box of Super Plus Extra tampons, and some Midol.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I remain.

Raqsi PM'd me a couple of hours ago out of the blue and made an excellent point.  After putting her arm behind her back, she said she was OK with me to share.

Make of it what you will:

    Hey there,

I decided to check my thread with the hope that maybe someone actually 'got'  what I was looking for, which is a way to ease into the secular mindset and lifestyle - not be shoved in. It seems that you were the only one in the entire thread that really understood what was going on, and I wanted to thank you for it.

I guess what it comes down to is this: People like who are not sure they want to be Muslim anymore need support more than anything else. I know what I don't like about Islam. I don't need other people to attempt to debate me at every turn or to pick my beliefs apart to suit their own agendas. If I wanted that, I'd seek the company of the so-called pious Muslims I know. I think your basic but very smart idea of not shoving anti-religion down people throats was one of the best I?ve read on an ex-Muslims forum. I wish more people shared your view and I hope this forum will adopt that mindset in the near future.

Apostating is about so much more than disproving other people's beliefs. It's about moving past primitive, tribal need feel superior others. How can we do that when apostates turn anti-Islam into a religion unto its own, complete with its own form of doctrine, proselytism, and persecution?

Anyway, I will not be reading or visiting the forum again, but I do wish you the best.

    Cheers,

    Raqsi

The only thing I can make of that is her loss yet again, for all the super anti religious throat shovers, there are 3 who are not, but she chose to see only the negative and not to understand anyone elses need to pick apart the things she was saying, which were wrong.

Whether she accepted them as wrong doesn't matter, this is a forum of people will individual minds and as such there will be differing views.

All forums will be like that, always.

Inhale the good shit, exhale the bullshit.

Three people started arguing among themselves about women being spiritually equal or whatever.  How does that constitute apostates turning anti-Islam into a religion of its own complete with doctrine, proselytism, and persecution?  People are entitled to express their own opinions without being accused of tribalism and all sorts of other nonsense.   Roll Eyes

Yup. She had deleted her posts before I got to read them but I saw some of the quotes and it looked like she had started making statements about Islam. If she does that then of course people will respond to those statements.

If she doesn't want to discuss the details of Islam at all then that's fine, but the best way to do that is to not make any comments on it. I understand what she is saying and she's entitled to feel that way but if she had been reading this site she should have guessed how people would react if she started making statements about Islam. Obviously people will discuss those statements, and as Cheetah says a lot of the discussion wasn't targeting Raqsi anyway. It was among other people.

Now you could argue that perhaps her introduction thread wasn't the best place for that discussion but she did bring it on to a degree and so she should be prepared to acknowledge this. If she comes back and says "Just STFU you lot, I'm only here to socialise and read" then I think people would respect that, but she'd have to stick to it or people would start discussing things with her again. As has been pointed out this is a discussion board.

Welcome to the forum Raqsi Smiley Hope you enjoy your stay.

What attracted you to Islam if I may ask?

    Thanks, and ask away!

I liked the idea that God doesn't have a gender in Islam. My parents attempted to instill Christian ideology in me, but even when I was a child the trinity made no sense. I also liked the prayer33q RQ

But according to the hadiths god does have a gender in islam.   wacko

You guys did it all wrong, you don't even know how to de convert someone, its easy...

All you do is, when they make a claim and you know it to be false or strange, you quote the scripture and ask them what they think of the quote. Remember, always back everything up what you say about someone's faith. Don't just say it and expect them to know, incredibly most have not read the faith they claim to follow.

Yup. Perhaps we could add this to the site FAQ.

"If you would like people to STFU about Islam when interacting with you please make this clear in your introduction and refrain from making pronouncements about Islam. Kthnx."

The subject of Allah's gender didn't "come up". Raqsi made a definitive statement about it, thereby initiating the discussion.
