     OP - April 07, 2009, 01:13 AM

Awesome...just got back from a bar (story on that later), came on here, posted something, sent a PM then right afterwards heard some gunshots, then figured okay...wait for the sirens. Hear sirens right now, but it sounds like a few blocks down, whereas the gunshots sounded closer. Hmmm...maybe it was fireworks. Goin down the block to see what's up. Back a bit later.

    fuck you

You know you are really good, or that your neighbourhood is really crappy, when you start picking the type and caliber of the gun making the shots.

Good news-- as I suspected it was fireworks. Due to the frequent shootings in this city, when you hear "bang" everybody runs inside, but sometimes it's a backfire or fireworks. Unfortunately, mass hysteria sets in and I was a part of it this time. As I left the house and started walking towards the bar the kids started being let out by their parents again...at that point I was positive no bodies had been dropped at the very least. Pretty sure it was firecrackers. Sorry for the false alarm.

Bad news-- I have the fuckin hiccups. Fuck!

    fuck you

My neighborhood is crappy (although not nearly as crappy as certain neighborhoods of this city like Point Breeze the next over or the Badlands in North Philly), but I got a tin ear. I've got an AR-15, AK-47, Saiga .308 and numerous handguns of different calibers (and was raised around all kinds of guns), but I still can't tell the fuckin difference just from listening. Normally I can at least tell the difference between a .22 lr and a 12 gauge shotgun, but, as tonight proves, when gripped in mass hysteria, sometimes I can't even tell the difference between a firecracker and a gunshot. Sucks when you realize your mind can be as weak and suggestible as everyone else's.

In Australia they have taken away our guns, even body armour is illegal. Gun crime hasn't gone away though, certainly not. You Americans should hold onto your guns.

You need to learn to tell the different calibers by the screams then. It doesn't require such a discerning ear.

When I lived in Detroit, I could tell whether someone got stabbed with a knife or some other sharp object by sound. You listen for the amount of "oh shits!", various other cussing, moans, crying, etc.

The easiest one was the guy that got in a fight with his brother-in-law, and got stabbed with one of those long rotisserie stakes you put in a grill.

    Some comments:

"Damn brotha!!  You gots a stake in yer chest...when's the shish-kabob done?"
"Hollleee shiyat...nig*** is tryin to BBQ hisself."

Another reason I'll never move back. Smiley

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I remain.

Body armor's illegal in some states here, but even in the ones where it's legal most manufacturers won't sell IIIA level vests to civilians anymore-- you'd have to buy it used.

We're trying, but it's kinda hard to convince people arms are a fundamental right of a free people when you have so many jerkoffs shooting up the fuckin place. That and our most organized pro-gun advocates have no strategic plan, no convincing message, and are working hard at isolating themselves from the political mainstream.

Hold on a minute, a good friend of mine lives in Detroit and has a "313" phone code( apparently thats a ghetto area  or something) and doesnt think it's quite bad as people make out. Mind you I've never been there myself.....

I don't assume that, she might have died in a car accident the very next day. Nothing's certain. A gun would have saved her from that attacker however.

You see similar cases in the US news, so it is wrong to assume that less gun control would make any difference.

If she had a gun, she might have been able to save herself from the attacker, but if she had a gun other members of the public would most probably have them too.

Then people start taking the law into their own hands and start shootin' people when their girlfriend cheats on them and whatnot.

For me, guns are only good in zombie scenarios.

There will always be a black market for guns.  In fact you will never stop those elements from getting hold of an offensive weapon, even if it is just an axe.  The point is that it stops the ordinary man from using them threateningly or even turning into vigilantes.

I dont know where I can get a gun from readily, and I believe its a safer place without giving everyone (including me) the ability to arm themselves.

Swiss males are also to undergo compulsory military training, doesn't mean that we should follow their example.

What I'm trying to say is that the consequences can vary from society to society, from culture to culture.

Amsterdam has legalized sales of marijuana, and apparently use of marijuana in Amsterdam isn't as high as in the United States.

However, if they legalize Cannabis in the United States, they may find a different trend amongst the Cannabis users.
