     Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy It fucking worked. He was about to hit the restart button to see if it was okay...i had to get him to go outside to get the washing to set it all up and he came back to me panicking saying something was up with his computer.

    He has a lot of entertainment (music, tv shows and movies) on his PC so he was crapping himself  Cheesy

    The only option is, get a XP BootDisk and install XP on your computer. That is what I did, I am running a hacked version of XP.

    Bleh. Yorta get one. Methinks what has happened is it has copped a surge when the power came back on. Shutting the power off wouldn't do any harm but if it copped a wallop when it came back on it might have fuckered something. Shouldn't be utterly terminal but it might be a pain in the arse.

    If she does that she'll be reinstalling everything from scratch and she doesn't have a disc.

    Im on the f8 page. I have the option to:

    -start in safe mode.

    -safe mode with networking

    -safe mode with command prompt.

    -enable boot logging

    -enable low res video

    -last known good configuration (advanced)

    -directory services restore mode



    -debugging mode

    -disable automatic restart on system failure

    -disable driver signature enforcement

    -start windows normally.

    and im still on hold on the phone lol what shoul i attempt?

    Its not difficult to fix, sounds like it could be a corrupt file.  Is the computer still under warranty otherwise they will probably tell you the same thing, apart from telling you to buy the XP disc from their store. 

    Get hold of a vista disc (your brother might have the right connections  Wink), and do the same as those instructions you followed from Tut.  However this time instead of booting from the hard drive, boot from your cd drive. 

    If this does not work then it is serious, and more like a hardware fault.

    Cool. This is looking better. I'd try normal, then safe mode, then if neither of those work go for last known good.

    That will restore an older backup though. Nothing to lose by trying the others first if they are accessible now, unless I'm missing something.

    Ok tried it in safe mode. A whole load of pc terms went whizzing by and led to a black screen with safe mode written in each corner and a heading "microsoft (r) windows (r) (build 6000)" and thats all. Will reattempt using last known

    Yes that is good, that is what it is supposed to look like in safe mode, its good now, you can restart normally now, it should boot up fine.
