Its not difficult to fix, sounds like it could be a corrupt file. Is the computer still under warranty otherwise they will probably tell you the same thing, apart from telling you to buy the XP disc from their store.
Get hold of a vista disc (your brother might have the right connections
), and do the same as those instructions you followed from Tut. However this time instead of booting from the hard drive, boot from your cd drive.
If this does not work then it is serious, and more like a hardware fault.
