God is forgiving and merciful."

Thus, if they repent, become Muslims & take to praying 5 times daily & pay zakat, let them go. Polytheists have to convert to Islam, or be killed.

Thats' what Muhammad did, he marched into Mecca, smashed the 360 idols around the kaaba & converted the polytheists to Islam after smashing the idols.
