     OP - April 17, 2009, 11:35 PM

I just got hold of "Voices of Islam" by Vincent J. Cornell, Omid Safi and others from my library. I've read Omid Safi's volume "Progressive Muslims" and I like him very much. "Voices of Islam" is an exquisite five-volume set with some great essays on classical and mystical Islam.

Turns out you can download the whole thing online from here:
    http://revelation-online.blogspot.com/2008/09/voices-of-islam.html

Check out the rest of the blog. It's insane. You can download tons of scholarly books on Islam and other religions here. Who are these people? Why are they uploading PDFs of amazing books and making them available to the public at no charge? What's in it for them?

Christ, I feel a bit guilty linking to a blog with tons of pirated books in PDF format ... but many of us are poor students who can't afford to buy these books, so ... hmmm, maybe we aren't so different from Muhammad and his band of caravan-looters after all. ;-)

Are you sure these are pirated books?  Huh?

I don't think so...I mean, books about religion aren't exactly similar to pirated CD's of the albums of the most popular rock stars, or even similar to sequels of bestsellers, so if people had intended to sell pirated copies of anything, they're unlikely to sell religious books.

Most of these books aren't critical about any religion, they simply describe it in glowing terms, so maybe the publishers & the authors have given them permission.

    Anyway, fantastic resource! Afro

    Thanks.  Smiley

Well these are copyrighted PDFs I'm guessing, so it can't be entirely legal to make them available for mass download like this.

Some of these books are quite scholarly, even if they are religious apologia.

Guess you're right-I'm not very familiar with what & how stuff are pirated on the net.

What if Islam had never existed? To some, it's a comforting thought: No clash of civilizations, no holy wars, no terrorists. Would Christianity have taken over the world? Would the Middle East be a peaceful beacon of democracy? Would 9/11 have happened?
