I've seen other ex-Scientologist forms that have seen the connection, like you said, it's about interpretation. It's like FFI taking an extreme interpretation of Islam, and CEMB taking a lighter one.
As for the plane thing, there's always enough time to cut the fuel
The incidents were exaggerated, and I can't be sure about the train incident but the plane one was not plausible at all. I even double checked with my flight instructors and asked them if it were possible (from past movies seen, not particularly this one) and they laughed at the prospect of it. It's almost as funny as a pilot who trained on a light aircraft at a flight academy and then jumping into the flight deck of a commercial jet and being able to actively fly it to a particular target.
I hate how movies like this use scare tactics on people...so many people have made comments like 'I won't be flying for a while now!' because of stupid Hollywood exaggerated scenes like that. I wonder what Travolta thought of this as a qualified airline pilot AND a Scientologist
Take the crash after take off that happened in Spain quiet recently. Many people died in it, that's true, but the pilot had enough time to cut the fuel and fly away from power lines. This stuff is highly stressed in flight training.
Also, I'm still confused as to why they would show the Scientology logo near the end of the movie if it isn't
based on Scientology.
