The problem with the "scientific miracles" thing, is that they are made by and for science illiterates. The kind of people who have a barely rudimentary and usually false understanding about cosmology and biology, who think the "big bag", for example, was actually a big ball of stuff that went bang.

I am at work, in the beginning there were some inaccuracies, and the ending was brilliant.

The inaccuracies are not your fault Jamshed, they are problems in the koran, but a muslim watching the video will quickly dismiss you as the source of the fault, not the book.

I will post the exact seconds in the video when i hit home.

Very nice video, very interesting. Aristotle is amazing, I love the Greek philosophers, I just hate reading their books, such a pain lol.

I really don't understand Dr Zakir Naik. At times he shows a massive amount of knowledge, but then at other times, he displays total ignorance.

I was in total shock and disbelief when he said that the western world discovered that the Earth was spherical in 1597 when Sir Francis Drake sailed around the world.

Firstly, Francis Drake died in 1596! So I assume that when he actually circumnavigated the world in 1579, that was just a myth. And then he posthumously circumnavigated the Earth and his ghost came back to Earth to tell everyone that he had discovered it was spherical!

Secondly, you don't need to circumnavigate the Earth to realise that the Earth is spherical.

And thirdly, it had been known that the Earth was spherical at least 2 MILLENIA before the 16th century!

So to claim that the Qur'an describing the Earth was spherical is a miracle is either a massive lie, or displaying complete ignorance. (Some even claim the ayat in question says that the Earth is flat, but that is a matter of debate!).

I just cannot believe that he came up on stage, did not do much research, and then talked so confidently about something that he had clearly not researched!

I have noticed that when Muslims talk about "the non-Muslim world" in history, they generally mean "Medieval Christian Europe". As if the classical Greek/Roman period never existed. And as if India and China never had any cultural or scientific impact on humanity.

Do not look directly at the operational end of the device.

Ah, not to mention pre-Columbian Americas, and the Norse, and... basically the whole world :S

So true. But even medieval christian europe was not as backwards and lacking culture as it is made out. Nowadays, it is almost unanimously agreed by historians today that the term "The Dark Ages" for the Early Middle Ages is an incorrect term to use.

Oh, and in Europe in the "Dark Ages", you would be very hard pressed to find an educated person who thought the earth was flat. This was a 19th century myth, started by Washington Irving, who said that everyone thought the Earth was flat and Christopher Columbus was a renegade who wanted to prove otherwise.

So to say that "the rest of the world" discovered that the Earth was round in 1597, is preposterous and highly misleading.

The Quran doesn't even mention that the earth is sperical.  There is absolutely no indication, anywhere, in the Quran that the earth is spherical.

So this whole debate is based on a false premise.

The Quran does say that the earth is "spread out like a carpet" though...  whistling2

That's debatable, which is never going to be resolved. So it is pretty pointless talking abouit it i find. But even if it does say that the Earth is spherical, that is by no means remarkable.

With all due respect, no it's not debatable.

The Quran really doesn't mention that the earth is spherical.  Anywhere.

If anyone thinks otherwise then the onus is on them to show us where it supposedly says this.

The verses which the likes of Zakir Naik use to support his claim are embarrassing to say the least.  I don't know how he manages to keep a straight face when he spouts them.

According to him, the verse in the Quran which tells us that the "day merges into night and the night merges into day" is also miraculously telling us that the earth is spherical.  Roll Eyes

By saying that this issue is "debatable", it's almost as if you're giving these ridiculous Islamic pseudo scientists some credit for their findings.

I always thought this could easily be cleared up..... what did the muslims at the time of muhammed think about the world and universe and all that?

I mean, there were people then, asking muhammed what he meant when he allah said this thing or that thing. So when looking for the meaning of a certain verse, that should be the first place to look?

It stands to reason, that if muhammed allah was saying something like...the earth is a rotating sphere that orbits a really big ball of firey explosions,  and is orbited by the moon which reflects light from that sun.... then it stands to reason that that explination would be in all the hadiths, in the early commentaries, sunna all that jazz, and that all muslims would know that. What did Abu Bakar say about this?

    see what I mean?

superstructure is faith and the dome is a vain hope. Superstition
