    I wanna know just one thing.

    I hope someone here can give a satisfactory answer:

    Why do women in the west convert to Islam?

    I mean, if we look at our newspapers and television,
    we see them constantly blast Islam as anti-women,
    and yet the European and American ladies are accepting Islam !!

    Why !!!

    Should girls not reject Islam? Women should be the last people on Earth that convert to Islam.

    So, why is this happening?

    Misinformation and love mostly.

    They don't usually look into all of the facts, relying instead on modern feminist islamic literature to guide them and make them believe they have more value than the greater texts would indicate.

    Also women can be very subserviant, especially in regards to love, and many often accede to their loves wishes.

    I agree with Berbs!! Usually they get sucked in by the Fantasy side of islam. They convert not knowing the truth. Islam is a very Beautifull religion at first glance. They fall in love with a muslim guy, he tells her to convert and there u go!!

    They see Islam as back to basics values.  Contraversial elements such as the niqab, are instead seen as empowering and desexualises women, when they see the West as degrading and portraying women as sexual puppets.

    And ironically the reality is the opposite. The West gives empowerment to the women while the hijab/niqab sexualises women, portraying them as nothing more than an object of lust which needs to be hidden away in order to stop them from tempting men.

    They dont like confusion and doubts. They love clarity.

    That might be why they are rushing to convert?

    So, maybe women like clear cut rules and laws.

    They feel they need to be told exactly what is right and what is wrong?

    Women see that only Islam offers such strict discipline.

    Maybe women love being dominated.

    And nothing dominates their soul like Islam does.

    According to muslim sources, about 75% of converts leave Islam within a few years, which definitely supports the theory that people, both men and women, are converting because they have been shown a sugar coated version of Islam.

    I think trying to pin such an attitude purely on women is wrong, gender doesn't dictate a persons need for law and order and strict rules, nor does it define which gender likes or dislikes ambiguity.

    I dislike rules and will discard any that don't fit in with my way of seeing the world, even if those rules are law related, I see myself as capable of defining my own rules, and tbh do not even like to define my own rules since that would still entrap me in something that I may change my mind on at a future date, and I am female.

    Yep!  That's a right we can exercise in the West which would not be accorded us in most 'Islamic' societies.

    Part of what attracted me to Islam originally was the community ethos it espouses.  Since I come from a relatively small family and have pretty much been left to figure my spirituality out for myself I was initally attracted to the social structure and supposed sisterhood I found amongst my Muslim friends.  Only after marrying and moving to the U.K. did I realize what a mistake I had made.  I don't  regret it though as it has helped me to become a stronger person and I am still on friendly terms with my Muslim soon-to-be-ex-husband.

    Something I learned years ago, that came as quite a surprise to me back then but have anecdotally observed it since.  It was when Margaret Thatcher won her last election, mostly on the back of the female vote. Back then the commentators attributed her success on women being more socially conservative than men back then, in particular the less well educated 'daily mail' readership types.  It may be down to family values, and support of a 'nanny' state, I dont know.

    Disagree with your initial statement about women "rushing to convert" though.  We only hear about the ones that do, the millions that dont get ignored.

    A lot of young and single Muslim men come to the UK (Europe/USA) and want to settle here. They find it so much easier to talk to European women and socialize freely - unlike back home - and so are like bulls with red rags in front of them. There are many European women who love the attention, excitement, forwardness, and romanticism of the Muslim men.

    One thing leads to another and they end up getting married (or in bed and then get married).

    The woman is so besotted by the guy, loves the exotic food, fabrics, culture, holidays abroad and fawing from their families back home they think this is Islam and convert (there may also be pressure from hubby who has just remembered he is a Muslim)

    What is interesting is that this is happening at a time when the most extremist interpretations of Islam are at their most prominent and starkly visible on most information mediums; yet...

    The sugar-coated Islam argument IMO no longer makes much sense (although it would have before september 11), especially given the current concerted effort by the anti-Islam movement and their apostate allies to convince the public that Islam is bad.

    Everyone by now has seen the Burkas in Afghanistan, heard about honor killings, etc.. at the very least, this would stop most women from taking the first step towards the religion.

    I expect it does stop a lot of people, AW, but in some ways those things make the sugar coated version easier to sell.  That may sound silly, but the extreme backwardness of the Taliban can lend credence to the propaganda claim that its just local tribal cultures which are at fault.  That makes it easier to sell Islam - "real Islam" that is "practised properly" - as a religion which respects women.

    Its always easier to sell a lie if you can bury it in among a load of truths.  And it IS true that the Taliban deny rights to women which the Qur'an allows them - education , the all encompassing burqa which is more restrictive than the veiling prescribed by the Qur'an, for example.

    Yes, everyone has heard about the Burkas in Afghanistan and about the honor killings. But they are also told that it is not real Islam.

    I think confirmation bias plays an important factor in people converting. They have an interest in Islam, want learn about it, and if they have good and romantic ideas about Islam and are attracted to it, they will subconciously ignore all the bad stuff and concentrate on the good stuff.

    In my opinion (and Im going to get raked over the coals for this) - most women do not like to be dominated as much as they cant stand a man who lets a woman dominate him.

    In the case of Muslim men and marriage, many Muslim men are keen to assert their dominance in a relationship (although on a side note, women/mothers are often quite powerful in Muslim families, just not overtly) and this may prove attractive to western women; especially when contrasted to the stereotypical western male who is often too deffering and lacks confidence in his masculinity.

    Just my evil observations :-)

    Fair enough but I think you'll agree that its not exactly good publicity.

    In other words, those who sell the "sugar-coated version" as you call it would probably have a much easier time doing it if it weren't for the daily suicide attacks carried out in the name of Islam.

    Maybe they would, but remember that converts - as I'm sure you know from personal experience - are usually not psychotic enough to convert to the Taliban, or al Qaeda, or whatever.  They convert because of whatever they think the "real Islam" consists of.
