Please help, this is a serious matter, I'm writing an important article for the church magazine.

If God created man in His image, that means God also has an ass. Should I write "ass" or "Ass", when referring to His Devine ass?

    Important theological point here.  Cheesy

Not sure if Shan will be able to answer this one, so I will try my best to help her.

The answer is that it depends on the context.  If you are referring to Gods rear, then you use the lower case, otherwise if you are referring to him as a rear end, then use uppercase, preferably in bold i.e.

    God's ass
    God is an Ass

So Shan, where did his God admit he is a liar?

No no no no no! His god has a lower-case "g". Anyway, I'll find it. Someone has to know the verse or surat I'm talking about...but I'll find it.

Thanks - and you are right - I don't believe in the god of Islam, so I shall make sure I dispense with the capital G and just say god.

I will also do the same for the Christian god - who is also a god I do not believe in and reject the absurd notion that Jesus is the son of god or the lord of anything - but just an irrational, illogical god.

I will do that from now on whenever I speak about the Christian god.

Thanks for the reminder, Shan  Afro

That's alright. I like to say that's not my problem. It's between you and my God. He can take care of himself.

Well I used to use the capital G for your god as well as the Islamic one - and it was you that has caused me to change that to the small g - and seeing how easily your god gets pissed off and how indiscriminate he can be (see the OT) then I wouldn't be surprised if he's a bit pissed off with you for causing me to behave like this. Wink

I'm not allowed to use a big "G" for other gods. The bible says there are gods, many....but there is only one God. And I am not going to commit polytheism....not for you...not for ANYBODY.

According to the bible, Allah may be a god, but there is only one God.

Again u r right - one should not change one's behaviour because of other ppls beliefs - so i shall ignore it when you or anyone tells me whether I should use a capital G or little g or whatever - thanks again.

What would a Muslim say about the question above, Hassan? Smiley I heard some very literalist guys believe in physical properties of Allah. (As long as it's in the Qur'an or something)

Once he was in power, they needed him there, to make sense of their lives.

Bummer. Okay...I'll just post the lyrics:

    You take a mortal man,
    And put him in control
    Watch him become a god,
    Watch peoples heads aroll
    Aroll...

    /chorus/
    Just like the pied piper
    Led rats through the streets
    We dance like marionettes,
    Swaying to the symphony...
    Of destruction

    Acting like a robot,
    Its metal brain corrodes.
You try to take its pulse,
    Before the head explodes.
    Explodes...

    /chorus/

    The earth starts to rumble
    World powers fall
    Awarring for the heavens,
    A peaceful man stands tall
    Tall...

    /chorus/

It could be alot of people....and it could also be a certain religious leader from way back.

So then you don't doubt Joe Smith?  If you have any doubts about Joe Smith, you're cruel.  By your own criteria.

In any case, you have written "Are you afraid to debate?".  You're not really debating.  You ask people these questions to stir them up, but don't come back with any thing of substance.  You give these half answers that don't mean anything.

    Reply:

The "substance" does not go down your throat well. Your last sentence is witness to that fact.

I think you fear the "stir" because your boat is not stable.

People like Variable are affraid they might get crucified.

You asked about Mr Smith. I have no reason to doubt him. I have herd bad things about him, but thats all hearsay. God demands that we do not base our decisions on hearsay. That would be unfair. Therefore, until I study the gentleman, I have to assume he is innocent.

So, you don't doubt him then... that he was a prophet of God.  Or when you say you'll assume he's innocent - do you mean that you don't believe that he said that about himself?  If that's the case, then you're doubting me - without doing any research.  That's cruel (apparently).

PS: Thankfully we don't crucify people anymore... though that would be different if the Quran was our guidance.

I realize the thread has taken on a whole new (and quite amusing) turn, but this has been bugging me and I just wanna confirm with someone who knows Arabic...

    Does that verse Shan quoted,
    Quote
"and [they] deceived and Allah deceived and Allah is the best of deceivers"
    Sura 3:54

actually mean 'deceiver' as in 'liar' in the context? I know different translations have taken it different ways, so I was just wondering what was the most correct translation, and also how scholars interpret it? (not necessarily the same).

Probably. The word is Makr (مكر).

See here, the same word is used in 6:123

    Quote
كذلك جعلنا في كل قرية اكابر مجرميها ليمكروا فيها وما يمكرون الا بانفسهم وما يشعرون

"thus have we placed in every city chief leaders of the wicked men thereof, that they may act deceitfully therein; but they shall act deceitfully against their own souls only; and they know it not. "

Some would translate Makr (verb) as "plan" but this has problems; as you can deceive yourself, but not plan against yourself.

"It may happen that the enemies of Islam may consider it expedient not to take any action against Islam, if Islam leaves them alone in their geographical boundaries... But Islam cannot agree to this unless they submit to its authority by paying Jizyah"

    -Sayyid Qutb, Milestones

You probably could plan against yourself without realizing it. Such as if you are going to write a book trying to disprove Islam. You are planning against yourself because the more effort you put into it, the more severe your punishment in hell will be.

The unlived life is not worth examining.

One member quoted these words of God:

    Quote
    Quran, chapter 3:54 says:

"and [they] deceived and Allah deceived and Allah is the best of deceivers"

If you have any brain left inside your head, then you can see to whom it refers.

It clearly says God deceives the deceivers.

    What your problem with that.

They deserve to be mislead and thrown in Hell.

Did you expect God to give dishonest people pancakes?  Wink

While you ladies talk about pancakes, may I reply to a remark by the silly gentleman:

I agree totally with your statement.
The issue is that Allah is all knowing and the creator of all. This in combination means that Allah determines the narrative of his creations.

If you belive that Allah is all-knowing and the creator of it, it is the logical conclusion, and since the all-knowing and all-creating nature of Allah are absolute, then it is an absolute conclusion.

Tell enlighten me as to what the "other possibilites" are. I'd be thrilled to hear your "absurd doubts" on this matter  Wink

No no no. What it says it that when making pancakes your wives must beat the batter properly. If they don't your pancakes will be cactus, in which case you go and sulk in another bedroom after admonishing them for buggering your breakfast.  sheikh
