Converts to Islam.

What do you people who were Muslims think are the main reasons people convert to Islam? any one thing?

I had a little read through a Quran and didnt feel it much, i kind of felt like i needed someone to explain every line. That puts me off a little for starters.

Just now and again i see the odd white girl with the hijab on, makes me wonder what path leads them to the conversion.

...not that im looking to conver by the way...lol

I've always said this, women who are submissive, or masochist are attracted to Islam.

Many of my friends who i helped convert to Islam [and now regret it] was attracted to Islam because it made them feel as if they were part of something; as if they had more in life going for them and that feeling of answers being given to them. The females especially, i think because they have not experienced the full thrust of how Muslim women are treated and think they are treasured.

Its kind of sad that voulnerable people turn to something like this in order to feel part of something...i can see the attraction when you feel a bit lost in life though.

For me though id start with the actual Quran, id demand to know what it says in every word before getting involved...lol

Some maybe attracted by scripture - or at least a selective presentation of it. But I suspect many more are actually attracted by people they meet, countries they visit, cultures they experience and even food they eat. These may sound trivial, but they are actually the stuff of life - particularly people and one's relationships with them. The belief in all the stuff then follows and can seem as exotic as the lovely art or cous cous or fruits they never had before or just a sense of belonging to a friendly community that makes a fuss of one (particularly if one is alientated or disillusioned with the society/religion/culture one comes from.)

I totally agree what what you just said Hassan.

Some Westerners are attracted to the new culture, language, cuisine etc. Some even think that anything foreign or "asian" is somehow Islamic.

Lets be honest, there are many Westerners who can't even distinguish between a Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, Asian, Pakistani, Indian etc.

I won't be surprised if a non-Muslim hears a beautiful arabic song, and they come to the conclusion that this "Islamic" music is so beautiful!

*even though Islam actually discourages music, and this "arabic" song could well have been sung by an arabic Christian, or Jew, or Atheist.

I can give plenty more examples, but I think you get gist of what I'm saying.

Yes, spot on! It may seem strange to think that such trivial one-off experiences could end up with one being immersed in a whole belief system that has huge implications the person never consciously explored - but that's what we human beings are like.

Never mind converts - even born Muslims with a life-time in Islam think Islam is their kindly old grandmother with her rosary beads or the tasty samosas aunty made or the lovely incense that wafts through the house at prayer time.

They get angry when you show them some nasty stuff and look at you very hurt, as if to say;

"Why are you telling such lies?"

i am a muslim so i can give you the real reason why people converting to islam

1. why does islam is spreading so fast in last 3 decades?

2. how can you stop/slowdown spreading of islam ?

3. what are the reason you cant stop spreading of islam ?

the reason islam is spreading so fast in last 3 decades is because of sextual immorality wide spread in christians's society like premarital sex,infidelity, porn etc. because of woman nudity everywhere man lost respect for women and because of man dont respect women so women dont respect men.

so man and mostly women joining islam for new lifestyle. this new converts to islam really are refugies of christian's immoral culture taking shelter in islam.

2. how can you stop/slowdown spreading of islam ?

simplely, ban bikini and other skin revealing clothing and porn.

3. what are the reason you cant stop spreading of islam ?

because you believe in freedom to wear bikini and watch porn, a freedom will destroy you and your freedom.

if you ban bikini /skin revealing clothing and ban porn (you)------->>> saved christianity/ saved western civilization.

I converted because I liked what I read, agreed with it, and found it to be true. Then I lost faith because of what I read . I came to discover the food later . When I first converted I still had an unnatural anxiety around muslims, even though I believed in Islam .

I chose to get circumcised at 17, don't tell me I never believed.

when you have immigrants crowding urban Europe, usually from poor or rural conservative backgrounds, with as many as 8 kids per family of immigrants who just happen to be religious and Muslim...while the educated secular Europeans are content with raising 1-2 kids at most, then you can understand why Islam is spreading.

Your talk or "sexual perversions" in the West is PROPAGANDA and disrespectful to the very secular and welfare states that allow these immigrants to escape the religious and political cesspit that is their own home countries and live the life and even abuse the system of the West.

The real sexual perversions are the ones among Muslims. Homophobia, wife beating, child marriages, honour killings targeting girls, marital rape etc.

I respect your views, but i feel you are very short sighted and one sided.

Take a look at the Netherlands for example, a very liberal place that has a very low teenage birth rate.

In thinking only one way, the islamic way, or the athiest way, or the buddhist way, to live life and everyone should be the same is what forces people apart, is what makes people feel alone and afraid.

Not because women walk around in bikins, or watch porn, its how we react to it, how we are too quick to judge others who are not like us. Thats what causes us to lose our true freedom, freedom within to accept and love all people in the world.

Thats real freedom to me and its great!

I agree, Muslims have very high fertility but i have noticed it does not really continue through to second or third generation who have been born in the west. When immigrants come to UK or Europe; they bring with them their culture but those who have been born here are less likely to retain it.

Also, why is it always the woman as the object of change!?!?

Why should women be told to cover up just because a man cant conrol himself??

Men should just accept that woman naturally attract us, we should respect that and not surpress it. We should try to unserstand that telling women to cover up, is only covering up our own frail minds and not seeking out any real ways to overcome any excessive obsessions one may have for women.

Also, when i was on hoilday once, in Geece, women would lay on the beach with their Breasts out, yes almost NAKED!! lert me tell you, after so much exposure to womens flesh it dont seem so special or sacred after a while...

I think also another reason that Islam looks like its spreading is simply bacause of the effects of globalisation, immigration isnt only happening in the UK and America, its a worldwide happening!

Its a great opportunity for the multicultural nations, the UK, US, Australia and other place is Europe to show how good the human race can be, to be the way forward to show that given the right chance nations dont have to be xenophobic.

Humans will never be united under one term, people are different and alwyas will be, the reality is things are aloways changing, noting ever stays the same. Religions that try to be too static are going against reality of the world and universe we live in. Therefore for me if we are to survive as a human race our cultures and religions or non religions have to open up to eachother, because things are not static, so trying to mke them static is an illusion.

Yes, looks like the only real way to solve the problem. During this process of globalisation our lives will increasingly become intertwined, and the teething period will be painful. However as ideas become diluted, the fringe elements will be the worst hit, leading to our present spate of reactionary hate and bombings. Once this period is over, our cultures will continue to homogenise (as has happened over the past hundred years) and difference dilute.

If bikinis and porn are responsible for the spread of islam then shouldn't muslims be in favour of them ? Maybe Hizb ut tahir should go round handing them out ...

You know what this means? Islam needs bikinis and porn. Without bikinis and porn there is no hope of a global ummah.

Kope: 22 Australians may have converted to Islam but that leaves 20 million Australians who have no desire to convert to Islam.

Just go to ANY mosque in these countries. If you see, say, 1000 people doing Salat etc only 5 will be those freshie converts who will eventually start coming less and less later on. The rest are the Muslim immigrants and their 8-10 kids per family. In UK, most are in fact restaurant owners or taxi drivers

so 5-10 among 1000 (and I am being generous as I have NEVER seen any more converts at all) is low and tiny compared the Muslim immigrants who are reproducing like rabbits.

No achievement of Allah, and nothing to be proud of.

Thats a good point, and according to statistics even the majority of these freshie converts will deconvert within a short period of time!

There is a link/video somewhere on this forum (cant find it now) that shows the percentage of converts to Islam that revert. From memory it quoted quite a high percentage within a certain number of years.
