     OP - May 19, 2009, 11:41 AM

A very disturbing repercussion of the totally justified anger people have over the MP's Expense Scandal is that many will shun the major political parties and some will vote for far-right parties in the upcoming local and European elections.

The prospect of it is frightening indeed.

I haven't read about the MP expense scandal yet...saw it briefly on the news but I had no idea what is going on...

People are really furious - and totally disillusioned with politicians.

It really is very serious and it is no exaggeration to say that it threatens faith in whole democratic process.

It has come at just the right time for the BNP - Nick Griffin must be beside himself.

I just read in detail what the situation was.

I can see how this would be the perfect opportunity for a right wing party to step in and gain support.

Simply put, they are using their expenses claims to get free money to pay for cleaning swimming pools and second homes, someone have avoided paying taxes. The rules on their expenses claims are very lax and they can basically claim for anything. They're stealing tax payers money and abusing it!

I was quite tempted not to vote this time around, it would be a golden opportunity to let the government know we're not going to take their shit! But unfortunately that will give the BNP a free ride, cant win either way.

Thanks for summing that up for me! Makes it easier to understand now!  Afro

That is disgusting! I wouldn't vote (I have to vote by proxy anyway) but they are dishing out HUGE fines for people who refuse to vote...and I'm already in heaps of debt :( That and I don't want the BNP getting closer to power. How awful would that be...

Forced to vote? What a strange democracy :\

Why do you have to vote anyway? You live in Australia, not Europe?...

I'm a British Citizen temporarily abroad, so I still have to vote by proxy or by post. Most probably I will have to get my dad to go in for me.

You could all just move to Ireland - no orgies allowed though.   040

Anyway, this party here is hoping to benefit from the expenses scandal AND the public's unwillingness to vote for the BNP.....

They want to bring back the death penalty, teach creationism in science classes and ban the Welsh flag because its a Satanic symbol!!!

Unwillingness my foot-according to the London daily, 33% voted for the BNP in a poll. Also, 10,000 new enquiries a day about the BNP in the BNP media centre.

    Country is screwed.

And isn't that black fella the same one that was in that recent tele program: "make me a Christian"?

Nine people were arrested yesterday after trouble flared during a protest march against supposed Muslim extremists.

The march in Luton was said to be a protest against an earlier demonstration during the Royal Anglian Regiment?s homecoming parade when soldiers were heckled on their return from a tour of duty in Afghanistan.

Yesterday there were about 500 protesters, some carrying banners with slogans such as ?No Sharia Law in the UK? and ?Respect our Troops?. Several cars were damaged after a small group split off from the march. An Asian-owned business had its windows smashed. In Stuart Street in the town centre, police drew batons. Mounted police and officers in riot gear were used to try to control the mob and stones were thrown.

A spokeswoman for Bedfordshire Police said: ?Nine people are in custody for a range of offences including criminal damage and assault.

A group calling itself United People of Luton had originally applied to stage a protest. Another group, March for England, was reported to have pulled out but some of its members took part anyway.

A council spokeswoman said: ?We advised people that if they were going to take part they should make sure it was a safe march.?

That's a pretty bad analogy. If nobody voted the Government would know they're in the wrong.

I don't know who to vote for, I hate all the parties.

I've been in Australia since Jan 08...so I'm not all clued on about what's happening. News in W.A revolves around people getting beaten to death by a meat cleaver, etc.

In all seriousness, it was mentioned but VERY briefly on the news here. Can't wait to get back to the UK, but stuff like this really worries me.

Well if nobody voted for the government then I guess the same government would be in power, doing whatever they want. So the analogy works in that aspect.

Also, if everybody ignored the murderer I guess that would let the murderer know he has done something wrong, but then he is still free to keep killing, so it works in that way too.

What do you hate about the Green Party?

The unlived life is not worth examining.
