    Question For Ex- Believers

As a ex-believer in God how do you describe your past believe in God, your believe in God was irrational, you were dumb, you were brainwashed, you were god delusionist?

Now as a atheist you describe yourselve as a rational, inteligent, free thinker?  dance

As an ex-believer, I describe myself as a human being, and as a believer I described myself as a human being.

What are you trying to ask, exactly?

I went with the flow because that's what everyone did. I noticed this is all nonsense as soon as I started thinking about it.

When I believed, I was young and naive. I was influenced by mostly family members whose belief in god and islam was a source of comfort, a sense of community. As I got older, I learned to think for myself. I questioned those beliefs and found they made no sense to ME. It was a long process, there was a lot of back and forth, but it's a growing up process.

I see Kope wants to prove that most of us were dumb once. Smiley

Irrespective of the belief or disbelief, I would be really surprized if a person does not undergo any change in her thoughts, outlook and understanding in around 5 to 10 years.

    More likely...
When I believed in god, I was a kid and I just didn't question the information that was given to me because it came from a source I trusted for my own survival.
When I started analyzing the validity of such information, I figured beliefs are something inconsequential and I became a skeptic.

Do not look directly at the operational end of the device.

Beware people, Kope is a fundamentalist Muslim who is terrified of sex, especially female sexuality. He regularly frequents the Sam Harris forum and spouts the most unimaginable nonsense.

He fears the bikini like most of us fear weapons of mass destruction.

You wont get much sense from him.

I first started thinking about things like why am I here, what is the meaning of life, who is god etc., when I was about 11 or 12. It was a long process and I learned as much as I could about many religions, most of them I'd say, over the years. I gave every religious perspective an honest go, I saw how much people from each different religion believed firmly in their religions (if they believed at all). I saw how all of them seemed to have about the same ratio of prayers answered. I saw that people from different cultures really truly in their own minds believed that their version of reality was THE reality. I was taught that our way was The Way and I wanted proof that it really was. I found no such proof. I also found no proof that any other way was The Way either. But I spent years and years looking. I don't regret it, I loved and still love studying religions and human psychology, which are very connected. I finally came to openly say that no I am not a Muslim and that I follow no religion, when I was 19.

Its like being on a bus and you realize the bus driver is completely lost. The bus driver won't admit he's lost and keeps going in the same direction. You get off the bus and you are still lost, but at least you realize you are lost and can make your own way now.

Its just mocking the story of the elephant head thing, again. The father gets angry, chops the human head off, then an elephant head, and sticks it on with glue.

It was offtopic I know. Ontopic, well, when I believed in God I were still a child. Children need to believe in things to make sense of the world.

That's amazing. I left Islam whilst I was on a bus so this is very appropriate for me lol Smiley

Is there a specific route number for 'leaving islam' ? Did the driver piss you off by stopping for prayers when you were trying to get to work on time or something ? I'm curious..

Was it possibly a bus that had 'There is probably no god' emblazoned on its side?

As for this thread - I was brainwashed from being able to understand speech, both by family and the church and, as seems to be the case with others here, started to question and think for myself when I was about 11.
By 15 I'd decided all belief was a crock and began to look for some real answers. I started along the scientific route of understanding and have never looked back.

I think the second part of your Q is easily answered by saying that I'm better informed by science. Nothing to do with intelligence.

Religion is ignorance giftwrapped in lyricism.
