Anyone heard of Rashid Khalifa - any thoughts and what do you think of his quranic translation.

I had a lengthy conversation with somebody today, and he told me that he believed in his sect.  I had never heard about him, just checked him out on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rashad_Khalifa and aparently he was seen as a Messenger of God and was murdered in 1990

He proclaimed himself as messenger, which got himself killed. Famous for his "Mathematic Miracle of The Qur'an" which focuses on patterns with the number 19. He had to lob off the last two verses of surah At-Tawba (9, which he calls Al-Bara'a), calling them forged, to make his 'miracle' work.

There's was one of the first sites I seen when I converted, and even then I knew they were kinda kooky. http://www.submission.org/ They used to have this great question and answer section (I couldn't find it again in a cursory overview), which had some unintentionally funny material. They make Salah in English IIRC.

I chose to get circumcised at 17, don't tell me I never believed.

Khalifa hints here that he might be a messenger or prophet - which is what many submitters believe, including my submitter friend.

Islame, where did you think submitters and 19-ers came from? Did you think Darwin created them? How is it possible not to know the great messenger dr. Rashad? And please take back that he suggested to be a "prophet". He never said that. He is only a messenger. Not a prophet. Big difference.

His translation is complete BS in terms of accuracy, but is quite fun if you believe in miracles and Allah. I know from experience.

In Islam, a messenger is more than a prophet Smiley

     Cheesy

So true, Zeb. I wonder if fundies would have spared RK if he claimed to be a prophet instead.

Khilafa was the first translator who translated "dahaha" as "egg-shaped" in verse 79:30.

I bumped into Rashid Khalifa's sect several years ago when I was a teen and got briefly excited by the numerical miracles bullshit but was quickly told they were a deviant sect outside the fold of (mainstream) Islam.

lol @ Khalifa arguing that Muhammad should not be regarded as the messenger of god.  He's using the Qur'an to argue that.  Well... where did the Qur'an come from?  lol
