I feel all grown up - doing my own housework, cooking etc...Sounds a bit silly but simple things like that can empower you, you feel more in control of your life. At home it was just, do a bit here and there whenever, but there was no real necessity or control.

Once I cleaned the kitchen back at home - spotless... I put everything in their 'proper places' on my terms, surfaces etc everything cleaned, made it like a Show Room (like it was spring cleaning lol)...a few mins later it's ruined and I'm pissed off, so I never did that again. lol.

Smiley I have some left for tomorrow. This cooking isn't as bad as I used to think it was, just have to not faff about. Decide on things, throw them together, and go with instincts rather than worry of details. It's quite easy, quick and enjoyable.

Yup. That's the way to cook. Recipes are only for getting ideas, or if you want to try something special.

That's fantastic, Jema. Looks yummy, except for the rice, for which I seem to have developed an aversion, lately. I wish I could muster the will to cook at least a meal every week.

Jema... that is the LONGEST long grain rice i have EVER seen! LOL

I made a nice veggie dinner..

Heat up two tablespoons of light olive oil
    till sizzling.

chop asparagas into bite size pieces.
chop onion into bite size pieces (not too small)
    chop green onions
have a quart of chopped fresh mushrooms
    2 tblsp chopped garlic

Put asparagas and onion in oil, and turn down
    heat a bit.

Throw in a splash of soy sauce
and a few drops of sesame seed oil
    mix

    then add the mushrooms
    mix

add a splash of cooking white wine
    mix

    lastly, add chopped green onions.
    mix real good.

Put heat on low and cover pan.
    Stir occasionally.

When onions and asparagas are fully cooked, its done
I like my asp.  a bit crispy instead of too soft so I dont
    cook it as long.

Since I started my diet yesterday, i didnt make japanese rice
but I KNOW this would kick butt over some steaming rice!

I also tried this dish with broccoli and that was real good, too!

I'm not sure. Used to love it but now I see it as a huge load of calories that takes too much effort and spicing in order to taste good Shocked

Mmm, that sounds interesting and delicious, but I wouldn't have a clue how to cook any of those things.

The only thing I know to do with plantain is fry ripe slices in a batter made with rice flower and then eat sprinkled with sugar. Those are really good Yummy

Awesome, I love avocado. No good for the diet though-but creamy and tasty.

Incidentally, I have lots of potatoes to use up, I'm on this potato recipe website (which seems to be set up by the government to encourage people to eat potatoes, wtf?) and I can't decide what to do.

Hmm, might do garlic and lemon roast potatoes.
