lol I thought it was a real turtle.  I was like, turtle looks a lot like bacon

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

Greatest breakfest sandwich ever, fry an egg, the put two slices of ham with cheese in the middle on the pan and lightly fry till warm and the cheese is melted on the inside, toasted bread with mayo on it, put it all together and you have a ham, cheese, and egg sandwich nice and toasty.

BLTs also are close tie as well

Mixu, I'm still learning to cook the basic cuts of many meats; it was the first time i made the rack of lamb and the meal I'm going to post up in a minute. As a student, I do not have an bottomless pit of money to buy amazing cuts/veg all the time so I tend to buy what's affordable and then work with it.

Tonight's meal: Slow roasted 10 day matured pork belly roast with creamy mash, purple-sprouting broccoli and roasted carrots served with an onion gravy (with juices from the roast)

    Carved up:

    Plated up:

    With gravy:

The meat was incredibly tender, falling apart even. Nom nom (if i do say so myself)! Tongue

I apostated a year ago-- I think it's an acquired taste. I went from hating the smell of bacon, to loving a bacon sarnie. For a while, honey roast ham was all I could muster, now I can eat plain ham. I hated pork chops unless it had lots of gravy, now I can eat it just fine. 10 months ago I wouldn't have enjoyed this meal much but today, I loved it.

How did you make the gravy? Just put the juices from the meat into a pan and then add......

Next time, try adding some chives to your mash, really does the trick.

I became a vegetarian months ago after apostatizing so no virgin pork tasting for me.  Huh?

Chives, nice. I've used it in mash before it's yum.

I added onions to the pork 1 hr before it came out so they were cooked nicely. Them, the juices, half the water the broccoli was boiled in, a sprig of thyme, some pepper and a pork stock cube was brought to boil then reduced down. I ended up using the pork cube as the joint didn't release enough juice since i'm only feeding 2.

@ Ephemeral: You're not missing out on pork that much anyway, in my opinion. I think it's just the smokey flavour and spices that people like about it, not really the meat. And after reading some philosophical stuff about eating meat, I became a vegetarian too.

why does pork have that smokey flavour?  is it characteristic of the meat, or something to do with the way its cured?

@ MoeAlharabi...ah awesome. I think I had some by accident once when I ate what was supposed to be veggie potato parogies but had tiny beads of pork or something.  :/ But doesn't everyone mask the taste of meat with spices and cook it? Who ever salivates from viewing raw meat :O

There are many practical reasons to be vegetarian as well Smiley

Now this is salty and fatty. Its called Salo, its a Ukrainian dish and its basically solid pork lard sliced up. I can't imagine the calories on that thing mysmilie_977
