I thought that was slices of coconut at first.  vomit

I apostated a year ago-- I think it's an acquired taste. I went from hating the smell of bacon, to loving a bacon sarnie. For a while, honey roast ham was all I could muster, now I can eat plain ham. I hated pork chops unless it had lots of gravy, now I can eat it just fine. 10 months ago I wouldn't have enjoyed this meal much but today, I loved it.

Correction: 2 years. Our 2nd anniversary is this week- dinner at Jamie's Itaian!

I became a vegetarian months ago after apostatizing so no virgin pork tasting for me.  Huh?

Out of interest, did you research vegetarian nutrition before changing your diet or have you taken the dive and are learning as you go?

Both. I researched whether I'd be able to sustain myself for a long time on a veg diet and also how I could get enough protein, so like combining different foods with protein etc etc. I found that a person on a veg diet could live just as healthy of a life, if not healthier. And,I research more as I go.

The protein thing isn't that big a deal if you're smart about it, imho. I'm not a diet-nazi, it's only vegan zealots who tend to piss me off (especially self-righteous junk food vegans who look like they're about to keel over from some deficiency or another).  Cheesy

Yeah, Initially I was obsessive over getting adequate protein. Then I realized that it wasn't as if I ate much meat anyway before becoming a vegetarian. I had already stopped eating red-meat because it didn't taste all that good to me anymore and chicken was the only other thing I ate. I was used to veggies because my parents have always eaten a lot of lentils, beans, vegetables etc. It wasn't really hard. Although coming out to my family as a vegetarian was a funny  experience LOL.

I've calmed down some on being a health nut because I realized I was developing an eating disorder--which I've had experience with. It isn't one that has been officially identified as a disorder yet.

I agree that vegans can be intense. Though I considered it for about 5 minutes when I realized that there ARE other purposes for the milk I drink every morning...namely that it is there for the cow's baby.

Perhaps I should start a seperate thread on this. Sorry to spam your lovely food-thread. (A)

Looks delicious Ferrero! Pastry looks light textured and just the right colour, steak filling looks ace.

Only one thing though - I would have had some carrots on the side too  bunny

I put the last of the carrots in the pie along with leek and onion. Sides was kale covering purple sprouting broccoli (unintentionally!). I totally demolished one of the pies when I was dishing up, though Cheesy

That's cool, you seem to have your head screwed on with regards to diet.

I am vegan. It's a good diet lifestyle, if done right. The only annoyance is working overseas fairly often and being accustomed to inhaling seared filet mignon at every opportunity, now reduced to munching on a ton of salad when I'm away from home. Still, less steak and merlot means more belly space for whisky, the way I see it. whistling2

I remember once I had some left over boneless Chicken karahi I made myself back at Uni. I had to move places then, and I just couldnt be bothered about making anything else. But I saw some unused pasta bag that had been lying in a cupboard for weeks - and given everyone else at my block had already left for home due to summer - I nicked it, made the pasta then added the chicken karahi and ate it.  dance
