Hahaha. Really not hard to make rice. Just always be there to check on the water.

IsLame, the trick is to mix some oil in with the rice. that prevents it from sticking.

...or take it off 4-5 minutes before you usually would and steam it (leave water at the bottom of the saucepan and pop the collander with the rice in it, on top) for about 10-15 minutes. You will get fluffy rice every time!

I cook my rice differently as its quicker & less hassle.  I normally put the rice in a covered pastic bowl with about 2cm of water above the rice, and then just stick it in the microwave for 14 minutes.  When the microwave goes ping, the basmati rice is ready to eat.

So I finally got around to making that steak. Got a large ribeye from Sainsbury's with microwavable cheddar mash and some carrots and broccoli.

A bit too well-cooked for my taste but it was completely my fault. First, I fried each side for 7-8 minutes on medium-level fire then I tasted it and it was spot-on. Juicy and tender just as I like it.
I put it in a plate and started frying the vegetables and realized it might take a while. So in a moment of hunger-stimulated stupidity, I thought "the steak is gonna get cold so maybe I should put it in the oven until I'm done with the veggies"   015
Needless to say, it dried off a bit. From now on, I should saute the veggies before I start with the steak.

All in all, it was very good. And the most important thing is the whole meal cost no more than £10. I ate it all by myself and now I feel so whacked it's like I've been injected with horse tranquilizer.

My mum and sister don't eat non-Halal meat so at the same time they made a lovely pizza. I thought I'd share the picture with you as well.

    pizza yum yum

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

@ IA: the sight of that meat reminds me of how my rugby playing friend eats every meal time.  Afro

Tonight, we made a well known spanish dish- prawn pil-pil. James really liked eating it when he was in Spain; I cooked it since his attempt went belly-up Cheesy

    How to cook it:
Heat some butter and olive oil in a pan, add some thinely sliced red chili and garlic. Be careful not to get the oil too hot otherwise the chili and garlic will cremate (1st failed attempt).  Simmer for about 4-5 minutes, letting the oil take on the flavours. Add raw king prawns with some marjoram (or coriander/parsley). After about 4 minutes (turning occassionally) the prawns should be cooked. Squeeze in some lemon and enjoy with some fresh bread.

    Ferrero, those prawns look scrumptious.

Can we have a mouth watering, saliva-dripping-out-of-mouth, licking-my-lips smiley for when Ferrero posts her pictures please?

But why so few? I love prawns. I could eat like a whole bag of them. When I was muslim i thanked Allah for at least letting me have this kind of seafood. Life without scampi sucks.

We had 8 each with bread- it was filling (with the bread). I would probably serve this as a starter in future, with less bread.

    Many Tongue

The base is made up of ginger nuts, flavoured with lemon juice. The cheese itself is flavoured with orange juice and zest (mixed with orange food colouring). The chocolate on top is flavoured with lemon.

Depends on the school of thought one follows. It's a toss up between halal to haram to makruh.
