    They do a better job at keeping religion and the state separate. No issues on gay rights and marriage either.

    According to a press freedom survey, the Scandinavian countries, including Finland and Iceland, have the press with most freedom in the world. Don't know if that automatically qualifies as 'a lot better', but it sure is an interesting indication.

    i read through that and scandinavia is certainly a little better on the press front than the US. my original point shows through clearly, hardly any countries in the 'free' bucket in asia.

    i said 'hardly' any countries. japan, south korea and israel are the only ones marked free as far as i could see though india's score is pretty close too.

    out of these japan and south korea have a clear US influence.

    i'd much prefer a culture than celebrates individuality , enterprise and freedom of speech and expression (the US) than a culture which is collective oriented, honour oriented and tells people to bite their lips on just about everything (most of asia).


    But it cuts it for me. It's not about what you prefer or don't prefer...it's that no culture is absolutely perfect (what is perfection anyway). There's always something that could be improved. I'm not saying I'd rather live in Pakistani culture but it has its good parts too.

    Frankly, when you say that U.S culture is the best (encompassing the whole country, not the different nuances of separate areas)...that's just laughable and you merely come across as disillusioned.

    well, i chose to point out things that are declared parts of the american identity and culture (blue state / red state / north / south / coast / interior does't matter).

    who is talking about perfection anyway. i am talking about relative merits.

    I always wondering why Muslim countries are like they actually are. I am a practicing Muslim but if there is a country where I don't want to live it's Pakistan and some others. I was also surprised in Egypt where I used to live to see that Christians there do have generally better Manners, are nice   even the one who is taxi driver.

    I am actually happy to live in Europe.
