Why is he asking me to use MSN?

I get a lot of PMs - some from ppl who sound distinctly dodgy. Recently I have been getting PMs from a guy who is pestering me to contact him on MSN. (Others have said they want to chat with me on MSN also).

I told him the same thing I tell them all - I don't use MSN.

So he replied:

Ok

can you make one for yourself please?

it will only take 3 minutes of your timee

i can assure you this chat will benifit you in many ways ok

peace

Can anyone tell me why he would insist on using MSN so much?

Any way I have said "NO".

He sounds a bit dodgy to me - this is his one and only video on his channel:

Creepy video. Just tell him you only discuss over PM and forums. If he keeps insisting then just ignore him.

A couple years ago it was possible to easily get somebody's IP address via MSN, by mean of the display-picture synchronization protocol.

Maybe it's still possible.

And he wants to stalk you

I'm sure its harmless, your videos are pretty tame compared with most anti-islam rhetoric on the internet. Even if he could discover your IP address, I am sure its pretty much impossible to find a home address from an IP address in any case

That's still possible as far as I'm aware. There are other ways too, sometimes your ip can be found without even sending a file.

Once on ummah.com, someone pm'd me because he wanted to talk to me on msn.

I thought that was a bit dodgy

He may just feel more comfortable talking on msn, maybe he feels he can corner you that way.

I think it's more likely to be this ^. Perhaps he wants to 'catch you out' as a 'fake' Ex-Muslim or something.

Although it is possible he also wants your IP, or your MSN address to get people to pester you.

Hi Sani, yes it was probably just that he wanted to chat live - I was just worried that he wanted to track me down - I have to be ultra careful, I get a lot of 'suspect' PMs and so I tend to be over cautious.

If you're that worried about it Hassan, just don't do it.

Alternately you can get a Gmail address (googlemail in the UK right?) and you can use the chat feature within that email. This is because Gmail does not reveal your IP.

tbh I don't usually hold any sort of discussion by PM, email or anything. (I don't have the time apart from anything else!)
