Oh yay, Burbs had a date! How exciting! dance

I'm still in the long process of moving and have really no time to be online except at work (yes finally got a job, but it's only temporary, and the pay is crap cuz it's an internship), and I try not to do personal-related stuff there too much. Soooo don't know how often I'll be able to check in here.

Talking about interests, how is that list of Do's u started a while back?

Haha, I suppose it's about time to get that list in circulation again, especially if anyone has more stuff to add:

    61. Going inside pubs
    62. Going out in the evening and not just during daylight hours
    63. Not feeling guilty for having impure thoughts
    64. hugging male friends

Ok, let's see... of the list the only things I've not done are #'s 7, 14, 23, 24, 27, 44, 47, 48. And most of those I don't care to do anyway, so I suppose the list has been a success! Afro

In other news, I revealed to 3 of my Muslim friends that I am no longer a Muslim. Two of them didn't seem to care at all (one is a friend in Kuwait, and we still email each other occasionally, the other is a local friend who just had a baby. She lives a couple hours away and I'm still trying to make time to visit and see her baby), and the other had the reaction I expected, which was utter shock and wanted to know WHY. I actually didn't know what to tell her right away. Just after I left Islam, I had all my thoughts and reasons in order, and I thought I'd know exactly how to explain my choice, but it had been so long when I finally told her that I didn't remember all of it lol. So after awhile I came up with a reply to her, and she promised to write me back, but I haven't heard from her. It's been a few months now, but I'll let her take her time, cuz it took me a couple months to write up my answer to her. I'm half-wondering if she read it and has started questioning Islam herself! Haha. Highly unlikely, of course. I will have to let you guys know what she says when she finally replies.

And now I must get back to work. This is the second time I've logged on to the forum from work, and to be honest I don't really want them to know about my history with Islam. I've chatted with a couple people about my experience in Kuwait, but I deliberately led them to believe that I was not religious while I was there, and that I've had no affiliation with Islam other than learning about it from people I befriended in Kuwait. I don't know why I feel so... embarrassed/reluctant to admit the truth. But I suppose I will continue keeping up the facade until I am so far removed from the past that it doesn't matter anymore, which is really what I want to happen.

    I'll be back soon hopefully!

Hey rational1, firstly it's good to hear from you, we miss you loads girl.  grin12

Secondly, I found the total opposite, the more I have talked about it, the less ashamed I am becoming.  Usually because there is zero judgement from anyone you tell, at least not visible judgement, but even the show of non judgement helps me to realise that the only person who truly judges me for being a muslim for so long, is me.

You and I have nothing to be ashamed of at all, everything we do is all part of the person we become and hopefully you love yourself as much as we all do. hugs

Finally got a reply from my Muslim friend, although she didn't actually reply. Just said she's been too busy to write one lol.

She did say this, though, which makes me think I'll either get a huge effort to re-convert me, or I'll get next to nothing. Either way, I'm glad she hasn't decided to disown me Smiley

Amidst the details of her busy summer, she threw these in:

"You have been on my mind often. I appreciate the time you took to write your thoughts and tell me about what is happening in your life and about the choices you have made. Of course I care to respond to what you said, I have known you as my Muslim sister for many years and I care about you. My response deserves much thought and to be frank with you, that has just not been possible with the situations that I have encountered the summer vacation. InshaAllah I will write you again soon.

    ...

It is difficult for me to know that you have left the religion of Islam because I see Islam as so beautiful and complete. Of course I feel you left a very precious gift behind. But the creator of the universe has given us the free will to make our choice."

So I guess we'll see. My apostasy wasn't really the show-stopper I expected, and now it's been so long it doesn't seem to matter. I'm movin' on!

Good for you. I doubt she will come back with anything. I have had similar emotional responses and promises of answering each and every one of my doubts... suffice to say nothing materialise apart from pleas to return to Islam.

While I was out yesterday, my mother rang and spoke to my missus. She said that she was worried for my children. My missus told her not to worry and that everything will be alright. I dunno what that means. Anyhow, I'm expecting something, maybe not from my mum but possibly from someone she might discuss it with.

Maybe best to play it low-key and ease off a bit, 20years. You don't want your wife to feel under pressure from others to do something.

Do you have young boys? Maybe she's thinking of circumcising them?

My son is 11 and was circumcised years ago. I think it'll be more on the level of preaching. The irony is that when I was 11 years old, teaching us islam was the last thing on my mothers mind, all of a sudden though there is this concern for the grand kids.

Well Hassan, you were right. She did reply, but not with any response to my apostasy. And now it's been quite a while since I've heard from her, so I don't think I can expect anything.

At least she will talk to me, though. I have another (was) close friend who I tried emailing a couple times and I got nothing. And another that I was pretty close to that I got an email from that seemed like it was sent to several people, announcing her MA. When I knew her she was EXTREMELY religious and very biased against non-Muslims. In her email she didn't use any religious words, and she's not one to leave out an "alhamdulillah" or "inshallah", even when speaking to a non-Muslim. So I'm not sure if this means that she has become less religious, or if she sent this email only to her non-Muslim friends (I never told her I left Islam, so if she knows then someone told her. Whatever happened to no gossipping?). I replied and asked her where she was working now (we worked together in Kuwait), along with telling her some of my news, and she replied with one line and completely ignored my question. So I guess she doesn't want to share her personal life with an apostate? That seems consistent with what I knew of her.

So a couple good friends lost. We had some fun times, too. Oh well.

I lived in a place called Fintas. Dunno if that area still is there or not. Kuwait changed a lot since we left I heard.
