I respect Eid a lot. I don't see it as a 'religious' thing. To me, it's more of a cultural thing. Personally speaking, I see Eid as an event where people from different cultures can come together and celebrate. I admire the 'unity' that the day represents. It's too bad that the very next day though, everyone goes back to their original racial biases, and continues to be distant from one another.
I love Eid, it is my equivalent of Christmas. Meeting family i haven't seen in months and greeting friends, catching up etc.
I have noticed that as well.
Very rarely do Africans, Arabs, Asians pray in the same Mosque. [Do you notice they each have their 'own' Mosque]
But on Eid it doesn't matter, people are greeting complete strangers who are Muslims in the streets. Its quite lovely.
It is a shame it happens only in those 24 hours
