Well the struggle to leave religion has been most....illuminating. But leaving Islam is a fuckload of trouble. I wish I was born into a (non-religious) Christian or Jewish family, it would be far easier. I mean, I do live under a fairly non-religious Muslim house, but it's still far more trouble than it's worth announcing apostasy. Many of my friends from a similar albeit Christian background can scream under the stars about how God isn't real.

I've to disagree. Christianity could also be tightly bound to extended family traditions.
It's only that, in the West it is not, except maybe in the US bible belt. I believe that even orthodox Jews might have the same problem.
As an ex-christian, I still haven't declared my apostasy.
