Question for Islame and anyone from Manchester.. What is Wilmslow road like on Eid? I think we are going up there next week.

Not a good place at night for any gora and non-Muslim to ever take a stroll from there.  grin12

I really miss Manchester  Cry Spent almost 4 and a half years of my life there.

Pakistan Zindabad? ya Pakistan sey Zinda bhaag?

In many ways I really miss celebrating eid, being a part of the festivities, being able to go visit my dad and kiss his head (sign of respect) on eid, eat gorgeous food.

But no, I had to go and be all "Oh, I'm an ex muslim" and stick to my principles 015

there nothing to stop an ex-muslim taking part in these culltural festivities.  How many ex-christian atheists in the West refuse to take part in xmas?

For many cultural Christians Christmas is

    - gifts for the kids
    - cozy family gettogether with food and drink
    - a season to be extra nice to each other

The religious connection has really taken the back seat, which would
make it easier for atheists/nominals to partake.

I have a hunch that that is not the case with eid? Or am I wrong?

My (very religious) sister has invited my kids (she didn't actually mention me) to come this Sunday. (She didn't say it was an Eid party - but of course I know it is lol)

She feels she needs to save my kids from Hell (too late for me) - so she wants to make sure they know what Eid is etc...

So I said yeah sure - she can baby sit my kids this weekend and give me time to see some mates in London and do some stuff  grin12

(btw she might get a shock if she starts asking them about religion/God etc... espc my 9 year old son rofl)

How many of you guys are forced to fast by the parents? My parents wouldn't dream of letting us not fast if we didn't want to, same with praying during Ramadan.

Not me! I was never forced to fast even as a kid. I suppose my parents are a bit mother was a bit more tolerant back then. But now that she is approaching sixty, she does ask me even though she knows about my atheism!

I have not fasted once this year, although I have pretended to have fasted every single day! That is what winds me up the most about it. I don't feel like a good person having to do that.

I'm forced PS. I'm forced to all the time wasted late night prayers, at least twice a week. Mum has tried waking me up in the morning but I've gotten away with it just saying that I'm not hungry.

I've not been that productive this month. My usual routine of a decent breakfast, coffee in the morning and 30 min run in the afternoon really helps with concentration and motivation. This past month has just ruined it, and it's not just me, my younger brother just comes home after school and sleeps off his hunger until sunset.

    Such a crappy meme. finmad

Ramadan is soo unproductive! It would be so much better to have a month where you work extra and give that money to the poor rather then a month where you stuff yourself with somosas and kebabs whilst the sun is down!

Exactly - or even just do a month of volunteering work and give away leisure money to good causes.

I give away money to Oxfam and The Red Cross, even here my rents complain my charity money should go toward Muslim poor people only. I think this is racist.

Guys guys! To fast is to experience the hunger pains and poverty of poor and unprivileged people so that you be kind to them....

Hey, wait a minute! Then why the poor and unprivileged people fast, they already know how it is like! Thinking hard

What's the ritual where one prays constantly for 10 days or so over Ramadan in a Mosque (for men) or a room (for women)? I found out many of my family members are doing it. Connection to God? Or further influential brainwashing? The latter I think: one can't do all this then feel it has been a waste of time.

I can't be bothered to wake up tomorrow. I know I am a lazy prick but the more I think about it, the more I wonder what is the point in waking that early to pray to a God that in all honesty probably does not exist?
Come on Allah, The All-Knowing, you should be able answer this one.

I think Hassan did something like that when he was a muslim. He wrote about it in his blog, definitely worth a read!

Ihtikaaf. I did it, somewhat. Spend the whole last ten nights at the masjid, praying as much as I could in chance that I hit the jackpot of laylat ul qadr. Last laylat ul qadr I spent the whole night looking at porno. My poor wretched soul. Cheesy

That's the end of the first Eid  i have spent without being a muslim.  Its like a complete release that its over.   Ramadhan was not as bad as I thought it would be, but in some ways it was worse.  My family didn't cause any problems,

I kept thinking of many things from my childhood and I can't help feeling sorry that they are lost.  Its a hard time to be an ex-muslim.

That's good. Did you tell them about your apostasy or they just think your Iman is low?
