I read about it elsewhere. Apparently what happened is that she could only be legally caned if she had also been sentenced to a gaol term, because only the prisons department has the legal right to conduct canings. Since she had already been tried and convicted, and since she can't be tried twice for the same beer, and since she had not been given a gaol term but only a fine, she could not legally be caned. Ergo, she gets off with a fine and the mullahs are pissed as hell.

Good point Baal, I have a hard time believing that if the mullahs wanted it done, it was let off on a technicality.

I thought she was only given a reprieve for Ramadhan and will be returned to jail and caned when its over.

You know what? That impotent God can not punish her himself so he uses these Mullah on his behalf. Why can't that stupid God punish her instantly if she broke his stupid law? For example he could have made the cane chase her in public and lash her so that others will see the power of God, or couldn't he?!
