     OP - September 02, 2009, 01:14 PM

Just watching it as I write this thread. There is a guy that Bill Maher interviews who looks like Louis Farakhan!

I didnt like it,  the was film too 'Americanised' and one dimensional, although there are some good clips (like the modern vicar he meets) - but let us know what you think when you are finished

I'm not sure about it. I mean, I think Bill Maher is a bit funny but I'd put him in the same box as Michael Moore (author and film maker).

I had mixed feelings about Religulous, some of the scenes I loved purely because of some of the interviews....like the Senator (correct me if I'm wrong, can't remember what his position was but it was something like that)...and the Serpent/Adam/Eve thing.

Yes I think I was expecting more hard hitting stuff with sources of why people did what they did, so was a bit disappointing overall. But had its good moments.

Well... Just finished watching it and it was just as I had expected from Bill Maher. All he has done is get the fanatics and literalists from the different religions and made fun of them. Lets put it this way. If I was a muslim and was watching it, I would have been offended at his portrayal of the muslims and would have laughed at the jews and christians. As a response I might have said that he has spoken to the wrong people blah blah blah! As an infidel though he hasn't shown me anything I didn't know in the first place. Also the muslim guy he was interviewing isn't a great example. His name is Akki Nawaz and is from Bradford!

My favourite bit in that film is when he is interviewing Reginald Foster. Bill Maher was gobsmacked!

This is the most AWESOME Priester EVER!

If just all religious people were like him... what a wonderful world this could be.

I think Bill Maher is definitely preaching to the choir, but I like his sardonic sense of humour, myself. I like sarcasm and satire and both high brow and low brow comedy. I didn't think Religulous added much to the debate of atheism/agnosticism, but it was pretty entertaining to watch.

I enjoy Bill Maher's stuff. He's a bit brash, rude and brutal at times but he is funny and sincere.

"I am ready to make my confession. I ask for no forgiveness father, for I have not sinned. I have only done what I needed to do to survive. I did not ask for the life that I was given, but it was given nonetheless-and with it, I did my best"

     Reply #15 - September 03, 2009, 12:47 PM

I think it was entertaining. I can still remember various good parts of the film. Bill Maher's phrases like "having ass backwards", "outsmarting God" to name a few, considering that he didn't use any canned laughter throughout the film. So was the Jesus Actor's states of water analogy to explain the Trinity.

Most interviews had something to remember. But I think his judgement of the female Dutch Muslim politician was a bit unfair. The informative value of the movie is less though, compared to the comedy. I like Bill Maher anyway. He's one of the few real liberals.

The movie was good but nothing amazing. He also did take some verses out of context and seemed to just pick on extremists. But I do like his sense of humour!

I just finished watching it...  and I think it is great.

Yes.... it added nothing new that we lot here at COEM didn't know, but don't forget Ex-Muslims were not the target audience of the film. I hope many religious people watch it and try to sincerely answer the questions in the film. The best part for me was the Jose "Jesus" Miranda guy! Hilarious. He actually told him that he has fruits in the head... LOL

Ye it was alrite i guess. A bit too one-sided for my liking everyone he seemed to be interviewing were just irrational fruit cakes. Kind of a pointless task really lol - did not tell us anything most people did not already know

I do not know Omaar, the muslim sheikh he spoke was very typical of the sheikhs we have.

Must be because the me tags are read as being different to the color tags, even though they both use a text colour as such. Wink

By the way, I can set the me tags to any colour we like on a theme-dependent basis, so they don't have to be red for all themes. That might be handy for legibility. I'll look into that as I don't mind the me tags. It's just people going loony with mulit-coloured posts that burns the eyeballs out.

And what are the ME tags? Sorry, I guess I am a computer illiterate when it comes to tags and codes. Prosaic, you little computer sneeky geeky devil, so you beat the rules? Good for you.

No need Osmanthus. I think red goes with all the themes well. Maybe other colors can disturb the  look.... Sometimes one might want a different color t scream something.
