Why did Muhammad oppose bigamy for Ali though he,his followers were polygamous?

This is a Sahih hadith from Sahih Bukhari, Muhammad forbade Ali from remarrying while married to his daughter Fatima, coz she's "part of his body and I hate what she hates to see, and what hurts her, hurts me."
Volume 7, Book 62, Number 157:
Narrated Al-Miswar bin Makhrama:
I heard Allah's Apostle who was on the pulpit, saying, "Banu Hisham bin Al-Mughira have requested me to allow them to marry their daughter to Ali bin Abu Talib, but I don't give permission, and will not give permission unless 'Ali bin Abi Talib divorces my daughter in order to marry their daughter, because Fatima is a part of my body, and I hate what she hates to see, and what hurts her, hurts me."
If he felt polygamy was painful to women, why allow it for other girls? Is it as they're " not part of his body and so he doesn't hate what they hates to see, and what hurts them, doesn't hurts him?"
World renowned historian Will Durant"...the Islamic conquest of India is probably the bloodiest story in history. It is a discouraging tale, for its evident moral is that civilization is a precious good, whose delicate complex order and freedom can at any moment be overthrown..."
