I once witnessed one like this here at home. The color was the same, yellowish orange!
I did not go outside, so I don't know how it is to breath all that dust, but I think it must be awful for Asthmatics!

I'm a long way north of Sydney and we even had it yesterday, although not nearly that bad. About four o'clock yesterday afternoon the sun looked like a full moon.

Not as far as I know. It was a westerly wind and that blows over different terrain for Adelaide and Melbourne.
