  • Mohammed's financial status
     OP - September 23, 2009, 06:25 PM

    Hi!

Was Mo a rich man or a pauper?

He married Khadidja and inherited her, which would make him of a sound financial standing. He also collected great amounts of booty from his attacks on his neighbours so I imagine him not wanting for much. I even seem to remember a statement in the Qur'an in which he argues why he should get a certain piece of booty.

On the other hand, some internet debaters claim that he gave everything away to poor people in the muslim community and died without any assets at all, and that he was getting grief from his wives for being so poor.

    What is the truth?

He certainly got a lot of booty after Khadija died the dirty perv

Take the Pakman challenge and convince me there is a God and Mo was not a murdering, power hungry sex maniac.

Muhammad himself was not a very wealthy person. Although in all the battles he fought he did get booty and so on. However this booty was widely distributed amongst the Muslim population. He himself, which is one of the good things i can note about Muhammad is he used to give a lot of charity. When he died all the slaves he had were set free and the property he had was given to charity. His wives were left with nothing lol

Muhammed (PBUH) wasn't a poor man while married to Khadijah. Khadijah owned a very successful trading buisness, and prior to their marriage Muhammed (PBUH) worked for her.

Good question. I have a related one: after Khadija's death, how did Muhamamad make money? Even if he wasn't wealthy, he still needed the basic necessities for himself and his multiple wives... did all this income come from war booty?

I heard that according to Islam you should first give charity to your own family before worrying about others. Is that not accurate? Because Muhammad's "will" seems to contradict it.

Ye it does but after Muhammad's death Aisha and the other wives received state pensions where Umar I think ruled as caliphate.
