  • Islamic sports?
     OP - October 04, 2009, 09:39 PM

I want to know is there anything said or revealed in Quran or Sunnah about sports and games.

Also have muslims ever invented any notable sports in the last 1400 years?  Apart from bed polo from their great leader of course  Afro

Archery Swimming and Horseriding as per Omar Khatab.

I don't know about anything else-although I do remember Mufti-Sahib bestowing wisdom upon us: "You shouldn't play cricket because it's a waste of time and the time can be used with hifz, you should instead play football because it's a short and active game".

I think Mufti Sahib was right

    Cricket is shit.

You asked if there was anything about sports in Quran/Sunnah-I told you that these sports were advocated by Mr Khattab.

As to the other question, I don't think Islam invented any sports nor popularised any.

The great game of beheadings and hand/feet chopping of mainly Pakistani and Bangladeshi workers in Saudi Arabia after every Friday prayer. Crowds are usually larger than many international game events.

The Pakistani Cricket team in the 90s were all heavy drinking party animals but now a lot of them are strict deobandis. I have always wandered how it is possible for a strict Muslim to play a sport that last 5 days. Especially in Ramadhan. There is no way you can fast when playing a Test Match.

Buskashi The Afghan game where they all ride on horses and fight for a goat carcass.

not to be confused with bukaki.

O wait, I think the non-muslim mongels invented both.

    My favourite game GeckoStrike:

This is the way you play it  dance

Muslim Book 026, Number 5564: reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: He who killed a gecko with the first stroke for him is such and such a reward, and he who killed it with a second stroke for him is such and such reward less than the first one, and he who killed it with the third stroke for him is such and such a reward less than the second one.

P.S  If anyone is a games writer, they should invent the game online.  Its not very pc on the animal rights front annihialating geckos, but hey, anything that takes their heat off us poor infidels is good enough for me  Afro

All sports were invented by non Muslims who are actually Muslims they just don't know it yet until they revert and see the light hence all sports are actually products of Islam they just don't know it yet.

Backgammon is haram, chess is makruh. The hadiths about chess are forgeries; the prohibition comes from the alleged narrations of things the sahaba said after Islam spread to Persia... and you know, only allah and  his messenger are supposed to make things haram.  But luckily for us, the scholar-gods have intervened to cover up for their fellow scholar-frauds and do what they always do (make things haram which quran and sunnah say nothing about), by saying that chess is makruh because it is a distraction from big al and pondering how great and wonderful he is.  also, umar didn't like it.  Tongue fuck umar.

Foot racing is another sport / game mentioned in the hadiths.

Here are some fun things about Islam & sport:

http://qa.sunnipath.com/issue_view.asp?HD=1&ID=1978&CATE=142 - read this before you dare to have fun, because your half hour of relaxation could put you in the fiery pits of an eternal hellfire.  And remember - Islam is PEACE!

http://islamqa.com/en/ref/14095/chess (this one uses the word "dice" but the hadith there refer to backgammon)

http://islamqa.com/en/ref/40527/sports it's okay to be in sport as long as your intention is to glorify allah and do shit for muslims. otherwise, it's bad.

http://qa.sunnipath.com/issue_view.asp?HD=1&ID=2439&CATE=34 when young muslim men engage in the horseplay and rough housing that is normal and common among young men all over the world, this is something to be discouraged and squashed.  But remember, kids - Islam isn't against fun!

http://qa.sunnipath.com/issue_view.asp?HD=1&ID=2289&CATE=13 backgammon - it's just like dipping your hands in pigs' blood!

http://qa.sunnipath.com/issue_view.asp?HD=1&ID=3034&CATE=115 islam says to cut off the heads of your kid's football trophies (if you must keep them at all). that's how we inculcate love of islam and the integration of islam into our american / british identities.

Don't you guys, uh, totally miss the baraka of Islam in your daily life?
