  • The Enemy Within - ITV4
     OP - October 13, 2009, 11:32 AM

Did anybody watch The Enemy Within on ITV4 at 8pm yesterday? The documentary didn?t offer a new insight as far as I am concerned, but it did catch my eye for one reason.
While watching it I realized that I actually know one of the "actors". I am talking about the guy that appears at 10:06, 11:05 and then again at length at 23:27. Let me just say
that I have never in my life met a more deluded, self-victimized individual, a true psychotic that belongs to a mental institution. He is one of those gangsta wannabe losers who
hate everybody, especially themselves and think the world owes them something. And he knows fuck all about Islam.

Oh yeah, the link to the documentary: http://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-enemy-within/4od#2973023

Saw the program and didn't think much of it, though there are some similarities between the Anarchist radicals at the end of the 19th Century and todays Islamic radicals.

I think I know the guy you mean (I mean I saw him - I don't know him) and yes, he looks a bit unhinged - typical angry young british Muslim (btw many of this type are not really "religious" in any traditional sense - yet they are the ones who form the main supporters of the extremists such as Anjem Chaudhury etc...)

Oh yeah, just like Botulism is.

...and yes, he looks a bit unhinged..

    He is a drug addict.

Exactly. Religion is just a pretence, an in-group marker. The worldview of these whackos is impregnated with "us" vs. "them" mentality and with plain old racism.

Angry Muslim Boy / Man is something of a comedy stereotype now, right?

Reminds me of what what a university scholar said about the terrorists; they'll open up and close what they say with a Islamic salutation but the content in between involves nothing Islamic at all - with the occasional distortion of an ayah or two to give the impression of genuineness.

The problem is that the issue is made worse with each click in the Muslim community claiming that they have the more 'real' and 'genuine' interpretation of Islam. It wouldn't be so bad if they were just run of the mill conservative and kept to themselves but the problem is that they export it outside their click believing the rest of the world should be 'blessed' with their 'authentic interpretation'.
