Best to steer clear of forums then, bound to end in tears if you dont want opinions.

    Opinions?

    Everyone has them.

It is not the opinion that is the problem. It's the judgement you make when told to you that their loss of faith is a private one not their parents.

I find it quite amazing that so many here call themselves 'apostates' and yet they can't bring themselves to tell the only people that their decision really affects - parents, wives, kids etc. I'm sure there are a lot of compassionate reasons for the deceit (as well as potential worries - and I'm not addressing this to those in poss danger) - but how can you live like that? I mean is one really an apostate if the only people they tell are their mates on the internet?

LoL Jack, you just came up with the First murtad-fatwa. Serpentine ambiguous logic leading to a contrived conclusion as to actually earn the honor of being a full-blown Fatwa. Good job Mawla-Murtad.

if Muslim society tolerated apostacy, I guess this forum wouldn't exist and people like me would have no need to find solace here. The issue is very complex when you live in a conservative community and have devout family members. Simplistic judgements are not helpful and I don't think this forums is for those who don't understand or empathize with the complexities. In short one needs a little more than an anglocentric value system to contribute here.

I can understand to some extent how you feel pakman. I don't think you should say too much to her, let her come to terms with it herself. It may happen one day or she will just live in denial. You could try testing the waters if you feel it's safe, if not then leave it for now.

Thanks. I'm glad most of you understand.

    .

I know this is an old thread, but this was very good. I really liked what you wrote here, Pakman.  I hope your situation will improve and you will find a wa to cope with all this.

However, I did find some of the answers somewhat disturbing and arrogant. I think it's very easy to assume that our own views are the "truth"? and bringing people to the "truth" is brining them to "light". This is a very disturbing idea. Truth is a subjective idea. Who knows what the "truth" is? Everyone claims it. How can you impose your own "truth" on other people? I sure don't impose any of my beliefs on anyone - as long as I know - and don't want anyone to believe in what I believe. If I stay alone in this world as the sole believer in my "truth", so be it. One can discuss, argue, exchange ideas, but not necessarily feel sorry for those who don't share our "truth".
