  • Questions for the older members (particularly Hassan and Omar Khayyam)

I know this is a bit depressing, but do you feel that you have wasted some of the best years of your life?

What were they supposed to have been doing with these years?

Lol, notice I said "older" and not "old"! And I only said those two names because I roughly know how old they are!

At times, yes I do. I sometimes wish I could live life again and take a wide route around Islam. But then I think that perhaps in some way I have gained something unique from going through all that - a perspective that I could have never gained if I had never walked that path.

I believe all of our lives are unique - even those that seem similar - we all have seen a different part of some massive jigsaw and gained a unique perspective and hopefully wisdom - even though others may not see it or we cannot see it in others.

Then again I could be just a stupid idiot who wasted his life on a load of bollocks  grin12

In adding to what Hassan said... I am sometime thankful for being born as a Muslim. Because then I could not leave the religion and have the critical insight I have about the nature and flexibility of the human mind and our beliefs. I think my experience with Islam has strengthened my critical thinking and understanding between truth and falsehood in a way the religion really never intended.

I know what you mean, I too am glad of the experiences I have had as they have made me the person that I am today.

However, I sometimes feel that life is passing me by, even though I am only very young (if I was a professional footballer, I would not have reached my peak yet!)

Firstly, how old do you think I am?

Secondly, I wish I had dealt with it earlier rather than pushing the doubts away. But I don't think I've left a stone unturned in terms of my investigation. I had to go through all that in order to arrive at where I am today.

That reminds me of one of my favourite lines from Only Fools and Horses when Grandad is finding it increasingly difficult to walk.

Del boy says "His brain went years ago. Now his legs have gone. He's only really got the middle bit left!"

    Made me chuckle.
