Haha  Pascal's wager...  There are two other Abrahamic faiths as well, one of them could also be 'his religion' and not necessarily Islam..

I am talking to Hassan so he needs to make his choice here I have always had a negative view of pascals wager but actually over time have re read the sources of the argument and it isn't the simplistic understanding a basic do it yourself philosophy book would render.  But my question if you read it was as to whether Hassan or any of you professed a belief in God

Sorry but I can get back to your other points but wanted to clarify.  You know islam is bullshit, and thats the truth.  But you are not sure God exists?  If he does exist wouldnt you concede it would be beyond you to constrain what god is or isn't and therefore Islam could be 'his religion' you can't know it is not.  That aside from the fact that your negative presentation of the Abrahamic god is contested.

Even if any sort of gods existed, there is nothign to say that they would even be Abraham's invisible friend.  What if the divine that existed ended up being Oya and Yemaya and Obatala? Or Krishna and Ganesh?  Or Loki and Freya? Shit, what if it was all of them?  Hey, any of these religions could be true, and you've gone atheist on all these other gods and only limited yourself to one choice.

Or none of them could be true, which seems most likely.

(Also, the bible - and the quran - do a fair job of presenting Abraham's friend in a negative light.  He doesn't need atheists to do the job for him).

Well in my case I will do declare outright that there is no god because I have no proof of that.  I personally believe that there is something, and I also know that I no evidence to back my beliefs up either. However I am also open to the possibility that I might be wrong.

You are making the baseless assumption that IF there is a god (which is already doubtful) then his religion is Islam.. (even more doubtful)

If there is doubt about something, you do not continue to make assumptions and spread it as the truth..

trying to understand your anger and your beliefs.  You do define yourselves by what you are not which seems a kinda single issue obsession.

Not really.  Lots of people have lots of interests and visit message boards and such for those interests.  I would not be surprised if members here were also on computer programmer forums, graphic designer forums, gardening forums, gay forums, knitting forums, and such as well.  And so what?

Identifying as a former Muslim is not negative.

Indeed - God could well have a very good reason for appearing to be the cruel sadistic bastard depicted by the Bible & Qur'an.

But unless I know what that reason is then he cannot reasonably expect me to believe.

So what is the purpose of life?

I don't like the way you discuss - you avoid what you want and just ask what you want.

From now on it's "Quid pro quo" - either answer my question or I will not be answering any more of yours.

I still believe it is possble for a supernatural creator to exist.  In any case, humans would have invented him if he did not exist - and Allah shows all the classical signs of this.  Allah is too human like, too flawed, too contradictory, too full of mistakes for him to be omnisicient and ominpotent.  Thats why I am sure that Allah does not exist.

    Dear Ras111,

You say "You are making the baseless assumption that IF there is a god (which is already doubtful) then his religion is Islam.. (even more doubtful)"

I am not trying to prove anything to you.  You have your faith and I have mine

Actually it was for ex-Muslims to share their feelings - but since you have gatecrashed it and decided to interrogate us - you must either answer my questions or I will not be replying to yours.

I'm not angry at islam, I used to be. I'd rather use my energy on better things.

I think this website is good though because I understand that there are still a lot of people out there who are probably doubting islam, afraid to admit they don't believe anymore etc, this website will help them and open people's eyes in general to the reality of islam and also so ex-muslims have other people who they can relate to on this aspect of life (faith/no-faith) to talk to.

Everyone here (unlike me lol  lipsrsealed who is more of a reader than a writer), the regulars, I salute you for keeping the momentum of this forum.  Afro

I am (still) primarily angry with myself for trying to rationalize something that cannot be rationalized. And acting like a fool in the process.

    Same here.

How could I fall for this?
I guess it had its good points (though some can't agree).
But all those holes. Huge holes. And I just danced around it because I wanted to believe, needed to believe it so much.

I was angry that Islam was not the ultimate truth that i'd hope it would be but in a way grateful for the experience. Now I am indifferent to religion as a whole. I only sometimes get pissed off at the backwardness of the Muslim, particularly Arab world and their unwillingness to at least discover a new interpretation of Islam and reform.

     Cheesy

    A little NSFW that one.

Perhaps a metaphorical representation of the Ummah and how it treats individual conscience? Only thing is, surely the oppressions of the Ummah wouldn't be a beautiful naked blonde lady but something more hairy, sweaty and horrible looking--- maybe Ron Jeremy in that position?
