Thanks for all the recommendations, I'll be sure to check them out Smiley

Now for Adam and Eve and Evolution. I think you should ask me. I accepted Adam and Eve and still know very little about Evolution. Ie in some respects I'm still your typical Muslim.

    But even with the little that I know I can say the following;

Genetic Ancestry would have surely pointed us in the direction of Adam and Eve? One couple and their handful of children? Resulting in all these modern and diverse people?

If Adam was 90 cubits or whatever the fuck wouldn't we find any kind of proof? Archaeological proof. What about evolutionary proof? Surely that should have been proven in today?s humans? 90 cubits means larger organs right? What about the design of such a body and it?s implications on surviving in their climate? For example, we can find archaeological proof of one family that immigrated out of Africa about 70 000 years ago, right in arabia. Surely we would be able to find Adam And Eve? Surely Allah would want us to find this proof and disprove the Kuffars?

What about how Adam and Eve were created in heaven and sent down on Earth? Where is the proof of this?

How about providing us with some good information. Like where they landed, proof of this? When they landed, proof of this? How long they lived, proof of this?

Homo Sapiens came about 200 000 years ago. Now was Adam a Messenger or not? This is not really clear. But in any case, it?s totally absurd, the timeline is crazy, I mean we have a clear succession of prophets but surely it couldn?t have started 200 000 years ago? Even if you stretch each prophet?s age to 1000 years (which is absurd in itself) it would have to reach down from 200 000 years. This is a muddled point I know, but what I?m trying to say is that the timeline is really unrealistically long for prophets and messengers. Again, there is no proof of these people ever existing.

No proof? Oh ok I guess it?s a metaphorical story, wait, a story? Kuffer surely. It?s a literal story. THIS HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE CASE. Don?t try changing facts here. I grew up with this being a literal story. In fact saying its not is the same as saying we have to take Islam in faith, kuffer again, we believe in islam out of rationality and intelligence. Not faith only. Saying that they are stories, metaphorical, will transform us into the people of the book, people who have lost their origins. Allah forbid. This is innovation. *Tvi Tvi*

I remember when I was really young, around 9-12, maybe younger. I had asked my dad, how we all could have come from Adam and Eve if they only had two sons. And my dad said this is one of those black veils (he said something in Arabic, black space, impenetrable space, I don?t remember) that you can?t get past, that god put a limit on our thinking. Me looking up to my dad and seeing him as an intelligent person (which I still do) and loving and caring (which I still do) and pious (which I still do) took his word for it. Imagine how that must have affected me? Imagine how I would have been if my dad would have laughed, ruffled my hair and said "son do you believe in all stories told to you? Do you believe in dragons, and monsters?" imagine if he had left it at that?

    @kafirist
She is very respectful. Notice how she was very sceptical but instead of disrespecting him she went and found another source. Also notice how the indigenous and nomadic people treat her with respect and help out whenever they can. Remember the nomadic people of Siberia? When the leader told her their creationism story, he said "this is a beautiful story". I mean he could have said other things, and maybe he believes in it, but we didn?t hear that, we heard that it?s a nice story. Not the literal truth of mammoths raising the world. Also notice how these people love their reindeers? What other indigenous people do we know that that love their local animals? Ahem like camels? Makes you think about how the local life affects everything; culture, religions and mentality.

I can understand not finding one persons skeleton I thought it was just Adam who was supposedly 90ft tall - do muslims claim all our ancestors were this height?

Well they would have to; it wouldn't make any sense otherwise? Within the internal logic of Adam being 90 ft tall, his children and children's children would have to have his characteristics? But the question then is how did we somehow end up being this size?

lol imagine his spine? i mean our spine crooks forward at old age because it hasn't been "designed" for upwards posture

Not necessarily - his height could have been a genetic mutation and a non-dominant gene so it might not have passed on. But I agree that it would have been physically impossible for someone to get to be this tall and still remain alive.

But he is a prophet/messengar/first human surely Allah would have made life easy for him...

And yes I agree, it should be impossible, how big would his heart be? Most people that are extremly tall die pretty young. That should be proof enough that it's not possible. And surely not 900 years LOL

Lol at cool canadian - you thought I bought into the Adam & Eve story  mysmilie_977  I am so embarrassed.

Logic & science based arguments are not the best ones to use with people who believe in an invisible creator.  Ones targeted at unravelling whatever is sellotaping them to their faith are what I think works best.

Thanks for joining my school of thought!!! Afro

Patrick Moore was UKs equivalent of Carl Sagan - so typical, education has up until recently been the preserve of the privilidged, and its no surprise UK lagged behind US advancements in the century..

Summary of Darwin's Theory of Evolution

    ?

A species is a population of organisms that interbreeds and has fertile offspring.

    ?

Living organisms have descended with modifications from species that lived before them.

    ?

Natural selection explains how this evolution has happened:

    ?

More organisms are produced than can survive because of limited resources.

    ?

Organisms struggle for the necessities of life; there is competition for resources.

    ?

Individuals within a population vary in their traits; some of these traits are heritable -- passed on to offspring.

    ?

Some variants are better adapted to survive and reproduce under local conditions than others.

    ?

Better-adapted individuals (the "fit enough") are more likely to survive and reproduce, thereby passing on copies of their genes to the next generation.

    ?

Species whose individuals are best adapted survive; others become extinct.

Perfect - imo they are must things to watch, as well as being the most enjoyable & informative.  The only series missing from here is guns, germs & steel & History of Islam- which I have no doubt you will enjoy just as much as these 2 i.e. The Incredible Human Journey; Cosmos; Guns, germs & steel & History of Islam (History channel)

BTW Just watch the first 2 series of Sagan - imo the other series are just extras. (the playlist and these other series are favourited as videos on my youtube account in my sig)

It is, but it is not pro-Islam either - its pretty objective as it sticks to the facts, without being offensive so yo can watch it with Muslims too.

I like it like that- I hate watching something that I know is biased as I dont know which facts to take in and which facts to reject and runining my viewing experience as a result..

    From Big Bang To Man
This is the story of the universe and our place within it. And if that's not enough, we will describe how every atom in existence today came into being, how galaxies formed, how our own solar system began. We will trace the progress of life on Earth from its humble beginnings to the emergence of mitochondrial Eve. And from Eve until now, we will follow the progress as humankind spread around the globe ...
