  • Hello from Holland!
     OP - December 21, 2009, 10:46 PM

    Hi everyone,

My name is Nora, I am from Holland and I am 23 years old. My parents are from Morocco, and moved in the 60ies to cold wet Holland.

I wanted to join this online community because i've had and still have serious questions about religion, and Islam in particular. I have always had a critical mind, and was always asking why and often the answers didnt satisfy my curiosity. My doubt started when I was 14 years old while making a paper for my Geography teacher about Islam. I did research and i read all kinds of texts and some of them really disturbed me ... the peace I had inside of me with God was rocking ever since. I didnt turn in the paper and changed the subject to something else eventually... Roll Eyes

I thought maybe I can meet some new people and discuss some of the things I have questons about  whistling2

Well I hope I am going to have a good time with you guys, If you have any questions please ask.  Wink

So are you an agnostic now or do you still believe in Islam? Are your parents religious or laid back, and do they know?

Yes i am agnostic on the vierge of being an atheist. I sort of can believe in God but I absolutely cannot believe in religion/books and all that manmade stuff.  My mom is very traditional and would curse me to hell if she found out. My dad is an atheist too in his heart but he wont admit it because hes afraid that his children would become kafirs  Cheesy My dad is very politics/history orientated but I cannot admit it to him (yet) either Wink he would try to convert me bac to islam  Cheesy

Well the amount of violence and illogical rules, i felt that the tone was very hard, no emotion. I always had a sort image of God of  very forgiving, very caring being. The rules were almost for ignorant people, people with no dept, with no ability in philosohical thinking.

It's like the same story over and over, eh? Even my dad, who was pretty much apathetic to religion 90% of his life is suddenly getting righteous on me when in his 60s.

Its hard now, because everyone in my family and the community is turning very religious. And its not accepted to say that I dont believe in God as much as they do. I happen to know more about Islam that some of them, but they are getting more selefie. Are you familiar with that term? Sometimes I just want to shout it out and sometimes  I think of the consequences and then I say to myself, well maybe it isnt that a big deal and your making a fuss about nothing. Its like fighting a the ocean, and if i start the fght i will drown maybe Roll Eyes Roll Eyes
