    21+, yes im serious.

Well these people aren't actually ex-muslims, yet. Maybe they just dont know it. but some do claim that quran is just made up of stories to guide people nothing more nothing less. some believe in evolution, yet they claim quran is true ( trust me i told them muslims believe in creationism, they all laughed at me and told me thats retarded Tongue) and finally some people who are muslims by name and only prays to god when needed, even they know its useless.

You're from Bangladesh right - I doubt we will get that figure from anyone residing in the west, let alone an islamic nation!  The more I hear about Bangladesh, the more I feel it will be at the forefront for ex-muslims in the future..

Yeah, we're probably one of the few Muslim societies with a fairly strong secular and atheistic streak.

I think it's simply because of the way the Bengalis were converted and the fact that we're basically an island of muslims in a hindu sea. We might be Muslims... but a Bengali is always a Bengali first. And free-thought, and religious diversity is part of our cultural makeup. Indonesians and Bosnians are similar I'd say.

thats interesting, particularly as there dont seem to be many Bangladeshi suicide bombers.  I wonder whether this is generally true, the more muslim countries you are surrounded by, the more religious a nation gets  Thinking hard

Bangladesh has had one suicide bombing incident. But it was quickly uncovered and the perpetrators hanged. Honestly, aside from Arabs and Pakistanis.. there really are no other suicide bombing Muslims. You will never see a Bangladeshi, Malaysian, Turk or Iranian blowing himself up among westerners or even themselves (at least its rare). Not 100% sure why.

The Tamil Tigers also used suicide bombers several times didn't they?

Oh yeah, them too. Ironically these hindus were the first on the suicide bombing scene, even before the Musulmans.

    Weren't the Bali suicide-bombers Indonesian?

Either way, the root of their ideology was not Indonesian Islam, which was always quite laid back, it was rooted in the Islam of elsewhere (no prizes for guessing exactly where)

Yeah, of course there's the Bali incident. But comparitively speaking, its so rare to see people from those parts do this shit. And you're right any person or place infected deeply with fundamentalist Islam naturally progress into violent and terrorist acts. The handful of fucktards that did the suicide bombing in Bangladesh were also salafists, not part of the local culture.

I reckon I've met up to 10, although it could be more if you take into account in laws who don't practice, believe the quran, etc.  I knew people who apostatized before, and then quite a few people from my friends, acquaintances, etc. have quit in the last three years, esp in the last 18 mos.  I was so  happy when three of my best friends quit Islam around the same time I did - all independently of each other.

Were these friends similar to you in religious views? Did they suffer some sort of "burnout"?

Perhaps Bangladesh is just behind the times and soon enough, as sure as night follows day, it too will radicalise like Turkey, Pakistan and other Islamic nations before it.

You think it will just be radicalisation?  Don't you see the formation of more secular movements as well to counter them?

Yes but that is not the normal seqence of events, it happens afterwards.  It goes like this:

    indifference - islamisation - radicalisation - secularisation

Nah. It's simply not in the nature of Bengalis. Some Jamaati mullahs regularly spout about enacting shariah and the people laugh them off. Police forces and army people aren't shy to beat the fuck out of the Islamists either. Last election I think the Islamist parties won a total of 3 seats or something.. out of like 300.

Excluding the people I've met on ex-Muslim forums like FFI and COEM, I only know 2 other ex-Muslims personally.  My friends have told me about a few ex-Muslims that they know of.

There are several people I know who are very non-practising and I'm sure that if I give them the push they will leave Islam.
